Apple to Microsoft: Stop with the ads
Posted by Sharon Pian Chan Seattle Times
Microsoft said it received a call from Apple saying Microsoft needs to stop running the laptop-hunter TV ads that harp on Apple for expensive computers. Why? Because Apple has lowered its prices.
That's according to Microsoft Chief Operating Officer Kevin Turner, who said he took a call from an Apple attorney. two weeks ago. He initially thought it was a practical joke, then said he found out Apple had cut prices on its computers.
"It was the greatest single phone call that Ive ever taken in the history of business," Turner said in a presentation at the Microsoft Worldwide Partners Conference in New Orleans. "I did cartwheels down the hallway."
I have a call in to Apple.
The television ads feature people shopping for a laptop and comparing prices on PCs and Macs. According to Microsoft, PCs have gained market share since the ads began running.
The ads were a response to Apple's relentless "I'm a Mac" ads teasing Microsoft mostly aboutproblems with Windows Vista. Click here to read about the Microsoft laptop hunter ads and check out the ad below:

These are great ads by Microsoft.
Probably. I wouldn’t be surprised if this sort of thing goes on back and forth between the companies.
I watched the PC hunter commercial. I thought it was a really well-done piece!
Maybe Microsoft should lay off of the adverts, though. Do they really want to have to bail out Apple again?
What a cry baby company.
Certainly better than those strange Seinfeld ads.
It’s like APPLE can dish it out with their “I’m a PC” ads but CANT take the criticism.

I am anything but a microsoft rooter, but I agree. Great ads are great ads.
If you are not a gamer, you can get a good pc for under $500. My wife’s was $420 at fryes. She uses it all over the country and even at work. I dumped the trial version of microsoft office and loaded OpenOffice immediately.
The laptop-hunter ads are well made. Somebody somewhere at some ad agency did some job.
Yeah, that "anti-trust insurance" was really expensive last time. Probably cost them about 3 hours' revenue.
... who’s ox is being gored...
Apple yelps because of the laptop-hunter TV ads.
Yet, Apple was the one behind all those Window freezing and VISTA problem ads.
[Suck it up, Apple.]
It appears that apple is just like most of its supporters :)
Did the same thing.
As many around here will tell you, if you don’t have and love your Mac, you just aren’t with it. It’s not a tool, it’s an identity. And it doesn’t matter what it costs. No matter how much it is, it’s worth it. (disclaimer: I like Macs very much)
Apple just needs to chill and run an add about ongoing costs MS has that MAC doesn’t. Like antivirus related stuff, time lost to patching and patch blowups, etc. Course, that may not help them much, I don’t know.
Cost for AV, anti-SPyware, anti-Malware, patches etc free.
Not exactly going to be a huge hit unless they want to be completely dishonest.
Time lost prior to patching is a guessing game anyways. After all I can’t remember the last time an unpatched MS OS caused me any downtime.
Ummm..., time to call up the Apple Ads... LOL...

You might want to catch some iPhone ads, while you’re at it... :-)

you can get good deals on craigslist if you know what to look for.
Looks like the ads are working. Keep it up. I want a new Mac.
The first since whenever. I wonder if in the $1000 they include all the software she’s going to have to buy? Nope.
