The Mossberg 500 Great Shotgun, Great Value
christiangunowner ^

The Mossberg 500, 12 gauge pump shotgun provides us with something that matters to most real-world shooters: Value. Value means something that works well and costs less than it's worth. And while some shot-gunners will read this and begin to rant and rave about "cheap" this and that; they can go ahead and use their "collector's model", artist engraved, sleek, precision....yada, yada, yada.... $3000 guns. I'll just keep blasting away with my $200 Mossberg. As will thousands of other shooters who have discovered this attractive, durable, and dependable pump shotgun.

I own a Mossberg 500 because I liked the safety placement better than the Remmington. Then I discovered that the cheap plastic safety was not durable enough for my needs and spent good money to replace it with an after market aluminum one that has never given me any problems.

I have the Remington 870 and debated on it and the Mossberg. I could have gone either way, they both do the same thing and make the same noise. I do like the position on the Mossberg safety better than the Remington.

My latest 16 pump acquisition is a Stevens 520 cut down to 19”. A real gangster era classic. Plus, the pre-war guns have no disconnector.

You are absolutely right. It is the Indian and not the arrow.

The range owner had a real good belly laugh later after the guy left. He said the guy had a problem with practicing and the range owner used us as a good example why he should practice more.

By the way, I quit after 3 shots because I wanted to go out with a win.

I still use the polychoke for different game birds.

I spend most of my hunting with the choke set between improved and modified.

Even though I live in Virginia I hunt mostly back home in Michigan and the woods are so dense that tighter than modified is a waste.

My 500 has taken so many Grouse, Woodcock, and Rabbit that I can't count. The wood may be scratched and worn but that is the badge of honor for being the greatest shotgun I will ever own. The memories I have collected with it are worth more than all my other weapons combined.

Stop, stop, you’re breaking my heart!

I own several 870’s and love each and every one of them.

But right now on gunbroker.com there’s a Mossberg 500 in 20 gauge, 28” barrel w/chokes and it’s only bid up to $125.00 with eighteen hours to go! Polished blue, nice wood, like new, but my gun safe(s) are just too slap full!

Replacement barrels go for less!

Please go to gunbroker and help find this 500 a good home!

The Mossberg is a fine pump shotgun. Second only to the Remington 870.

The Maverick is cheaper because it only has one action arm, in addition to some other cheapened parts and corners cut.

They are not dependable.

I still love my old Sears double-barrel (two trigger) shotgun.

I have owned a Mossberg 9200 semi-auto since around 1992 but I wanted something that handles light loads without an issue so I found a guy selling a Mossberg 835 for $200 with an extra slug barrel.

I’ve since run at least 300 rounds though it(100 today) shooting clays and it’s been fantastic. The only thing I’ve done is add a limbsaver recoil pad.

The Rem 870s are great guns and had I not found this 835 so cheap, I may have bought one. I am quite happy with my pump Mossy though. It’s great gun.

Yep, being a port sider, I like the placement of the safety as well. I have a left handed 870 and 1100 but the Mossberg came with two barrels, one of which is for home defense. That's the barrel that I keep it rigged with virtually all the time. The only thing I don't like about the gun, and it probably has to do with the year manufactured, is that if pumped in rapid fire mode, the trigger must be completely released between pumpings. Older pumps can be fired without releasing the trigger.

Someone will not mistake it for anything other than “Goody, I know where that guy is hiding”.

1.Dump the hollywood stuff.
2. Call 911.
3. Hide behind hard cover.
4. Defend your life.
5. Stop shooting when the threat is over.

You’re welcome.

The Mossberg safety is in a better position than the Remington until you install a combination rear stock and pistol grip.

I modified my Mossbergs to take the Aguila Mini-shells. The short mag holds seven and the longer one holds 12.
