Rash of bear break-ins rattle Boulder residents

Wildlife officials respond to several confrontations Tuesday night.

Authorities responded to several reports of bears in homes or yards west of Boulder on Tuesday night, including one in which a bear walked into a house in Sunshine Canyon.

Rice said it was the second time in recent weeks that a bear was in his house. He said in the previous break-in, the bear — he thinks it was the same one — got in through a doggie door.

After officials left Rice’s house Tuesday night, a bear also walked under the porch at the home next door, belonging to Schindler.

Another incident happened around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at 4300 Sunshine Canyon Drive. The family of three who lives there, including a 2-year-old boy, said a mother bear and two cubs were in the garage.

One man fired a gun to try to scare the bears away...

Kinder, gentler bears though, because Obama is in charge now.

“It tastes like bear poo, poobear...”

Sounds like they taste about as good as they smell.

BTW, poobear is our Yorkie Poodle Terrier. He looks like a miniature Florida Black Bear, hence the name.

I just finished up the last of my bear meat. The meat was from two early fall kills, berry fed, Southern Oregon bears. I had bbq’d some steaks and they were excellent. I had the rest made into summer sausage which also turned out excellent.

A lot of so called poor flavor of game is from poor handling. On the other paw, I don’t think I would like to try eating bear that has been feeding on carrion.

"bear meat"

I have a friend who says it tastes like pork. If you are what you eat, then bears must eat stimulus bills. (smirk)

"Catch and release."

A bear population explosion is occurring. First, we need to fire the animal-worshiping wildlife folks and hire some who possess more common sense and honest morality. Then, the new hires should relocate all of the problem bears to the outskirts of Boulder for a few years.

The pest problem will reach critical mass soon--both the animal predators and the dingy hags who run interference for them. If a bear here breaks anything of ours, threatens me, a family member or livestock, it's going to get wide flat-nosed, big bore wheel weights in excess of 300 grains from its front end to its back end.

[Thanks to John "Pondora" Taylor for ballistics expertise better than the drivel emanated by officious fans of splattering smallbore rounds.]

From Wikipedia, 'cause bears don't matter all that much ®:

The name originated from an incident on a bear-hunting trip in Mississippi in November 1902, to which Roosevelt was invited by Mississippi Governor Andrew H. Longino...A suite of Roosevelt's attendants, led by Holt Collier,[1] cornered, clubbed, and tied an American Black Bear to a willow tree after a long exhausting chase with hounds. They called Roosevelt to the site and suggested that he should shoot it. He refused to shoot the bear himself, deeming this unsportsmanlike,[2] but instructed that the bear be killed to put it out of its misery,...

At least they were not cougars.

I've seen some mean looking old ladies in Boulder.

Not taking him to a groomer is the first thought that came to my mind. LOL!
I have a cocker that looks the same way when I let her hair get too long.

That was in the fall last year. He gets dreadlocks once his puppy cut grows out.

He'd been rained on a few times that afternoon. Probably a Thursday before his weekend bath LOL! He's a good dog.

Just now he alerted me of an opossum out front of the house. The opossum is now in a local dumpster.
