Mac threads resemble DU.

It seems like every time I venture into an Apple thread here on FR, it's similar to venturing over into Democratic Underground territory.

Personal attacks abound especially if you start criticizing Apple products or other Apple users for being naive into thinking Apple is everything their clever marketing department represents it to be.

It seems like the Mac ping list alerts the faithful flock to defend Apple to the death and that is when the claws come out and it starts to get ugly.

I’m still waiting for that list of ad hominem attacks from Mac users to PC users on this thread.

You didn't have to go very far Swordmaker. The very next thread after yours was a perfect example of a Mac user attacking a PC user with an ad hominem attack. I don't take it personally as I don't know the Freeper that posted the following:

I think I’ve read enough of your attempts to present rational reasons for your irrational behavior and postings.

1) You have paranoid fantasies, (this is an attack as I have no paranoid fantasies (WTF???))

2) You have delusions of grandeur. (All of a sudden I am delusional to a person I have never met. Wow all of a sudden I am getting free psychiatric advice. Great.)

I’m guessing that you’re probably off your meds, and normally - when you’re properly medicated and more rational you don’t log into online forums and try to create conflict with complete strangers on a topic on which you are neither an expert on the subject matter, or on the needs and preferences of those you have chosen to argue with.

What I find laughable is how people love to put words into my mouth. I never said I was an expert of Apple or even own one.

PC does 2 things on a bigger screen that I gotta use for my work that I can’t do on the Macbook. So it stays and is kept functional.

Adding RAM to the Mac next week :)

I believe there is a newer model. I bought this one early this spring for about $500.

Check out B&H photo. That’s where I got mine. My sister is a pro and deals almost exclusively with B&H.

I don’t know about your battery problems, but let me tell you about my Apple experience.

My first Apple computer still works after 31 years, and much abuse and beatings from traveling around the world. It is a testament to the fact that Apple has always emphasized quality in their designs.

The batteries in my Apple products have worked as advertised. The battery in my first iPod lasted a few years beyond the advertised life expectancy.

Apple has replaced out-of-warranty equipment for me at no charge, which is nearly unheard of in the industry.

And overall, Macs just work better. In terms of engineering quality, Mac OS X is far superior to Windows. Most computer users would be better off switching to a Mac.

So that is my experience. Now, here is the obligatory personal attack you were hoping for when you started this flame-bait thread: You deserve Windows.

If there was a great a reliability difference between commercial chips and server grade chips and the QPI made much of a "real world" defference and if Apple was building their Macs the same way I built my PC, you might be right, but there's not, it doesn't, and I'm paying retail prices for all of my hardware, they are paying wholesale prices...huge difference.

Show me a commercial outfit with mission critical work that would install a Sudetenland i7 computer in preference to the Mac Pro.

Their profit margin is well over 100% on each machine.

That's BS, Sudetenland. You might come up with that only if you use YOUR selection of hardware. Apple makes no bones about the margin of profit. It's public information. It's about 30%.

OH yeah, BTW the XEON is a Nehalem architecture chip and thus is an i7 based chip. You are right that it is a different die, 45nm. and thus lower power consumption, but the same basic chip.

The difference between the two chips power consumption is 35 Watts. That's a lot of heat that has to be handled. That adds costs and even more power consumption. The Xeon is not an i7 based chip... it is more proper to say that both this Xeon and the i7 are in the same Nehalem family... but they are different chips with quite a difference in pricing.

If I were running a server farm, 35 Watts makes a BIG difference in my power bill... and the heat I have to dispose of.

That said, I would like to see Apple offer a mid priced headless tower based on the i7s. I think there is a market for it. I doubt it would happen because I think it would cannibalize their Mac Pro line.

1) You have paranoid fantasies, (this is an attack as I have no paranoid fantasies (WTF???))

Considering that you apparently take disagreement with your talking points as personal attacks, one might easily come to the conclusion that you have paranoid fantasies. For the rest of it, I could not say. I don't know if you are off medications, or even need them. However, your irrational behavior does make one wonder. Quite frankly, after this thread, I think you have earned some of those comments.

You make claims ex cathedra about Macs as those those claims were established facts. That leads idle readers to make the assumption you know what you are talking about. The fact is that repeatedly your claims have been proved wrong. I do agree with the writer that you have created this thread, and entered other Mac threads with the purpose of creating conflict.

I have again read through the "battery" thread and fail to see any unearned personal attacks against you... but I do see many ad hominem attacks on Mac users in your posts and replies. I am interested in what YOU think are attacks on you in that post that you did not earn. Could you please provide a list?

I don't see where Mr. Blue is getting his delusions that the Genius Bar is a bunch of incompetent sociopathic sadists.

By his own admission, he's simply taking what he heard about Best Buy's Geek Squad and Circuit City's Firefox (he calls it Foxdog) and simply assuming that the Genuis Bar must be the same way.

“Unearned” personal attacks is your qualifyer, how convenient. I sense a trend with you where you and you alone decide what is relevant, what is “unearned” and what is earned. The most laughable was your “unbiased” (yes I am being sarcastic here and no sarcasm doesn’t qualify as an ad hominem attack) research in determining there were 9 attacks by PC users compared to 1 attack by a Mac user. You chose to determine what was mild, what was moderate and was was severe. I’d probably question your judgment in every case.

Sword I don't think that is correct...

You may be right... I was working off of memory... however, there is a difference. Doing a little research:

According to Intel:

The Intel® i7® 290 2.66GHz Bloomfield's single QPI is rated at 4.8GT/s
The Intel® Xeon® X5550 2.66Ghz Gainstown's dual QPI is rated at 6.4GT/s.

Doing the calculations for the increase, the Xeon is about 33% faster than the i7.

However, the Xeon's Gainestown processor has a dual link with a seperate memory register for each, thus giving it SIX channels, making it a six channel multiplexed system... instead of the single link and THREE channels that are in the Bloomfield i7. The result is even greater throughput. Doubling the channels probably doesn't give a 66% improvement, but I would not be surprised at 50%.

I recall reading somewhere that since the release of the i7s, Intel has unlocked a switch in them and they now will do 6.4GT/s... so it may be lower.

Does that agree with your thinking?

Well Swordmaker YOU, yes YOU were the very first to post a snarky remark in that thread post #4 and was your first post in there.

Thanks to Blue Highway for the post... in spite of his FUD rant.

To address your statement: "In spite of his FUD rant"

There is no fear, uncertainty or doubt in my rant. You got the "rant" part correct as I did have a legitimate rant.

Since I didn't have to venture far to find the first attack which was low and behold by you yourself Mr. Swordmaker, I don't want to spend hours trying to compile a list through the 168 posts, of attacks that you claim there are none made towards me.

Let's leave it with the fact that I found one where you claimed there wasn't one in the entire thread, and it was made by you of all people. How shocking, right?
