ADELPHI, Md. -- Government experts say the maximum daily dose listed on Tylenol and dozens of other painkillers should be reduced to help curb deadly overdoses.

The Food and Drug Administration's panel voted 21-16 to lower the current maximum dose of nonprescription acetaminophen, which is 4 grams, or eight pills per day. Taking more than that can cause potentially fatal liver damage

Is there something more sinister involved? What if the real motivation is to ban Tylenol and other medications.

If elderly and babies die due to high fever for lack of Tylenol is this a concern?

No, there's nothing sinister involved. I've known of the problem for years, it's been well publicized. I don't take Tylenol or Motrin, just plain old aspirin. It would be nice if this crap wasn't in NyQuil and the like. I would start using then again.

This is old news that the public figured out itself, they are a day late and a dollar short but Im sure they spent trillions applying common sense.

But...but...Barry told the daughter of the old lady who needed a pacemaker that her mother should just take more painkillers...

Right-o-reeney,,,,they sell them by the quart bottle full at any discount store, but the committe voted to reduce the dosage, sure thing. Another sign of the American brain drain.

I have found that the few times I took Tylenol that it did absolutely nothing for my pain. I take ibuprofen and it works fine on the joints and headaches...don’t know about fevers because I don’t get those any more. Teens have long known the suicidal properties of Tylenol - liver failure can’t be too pretty of way to check out. Why isn’t Tylenol (acetominophen) put behind the counter along with all the meth-making cough syrups? I’m just saying...if we need the Nanny state to protect us from our dumb selves, where does it all end???

I’m not a fan of the FDA. But I doubt sinister motives are involved. Most people don’t know that Tylenol is REALLY dangerous in larger doses. By larger doses, I don’t mean take the whole bottle. I mean a little bigger than the recommended doses. It’s not real good for your liver even in smaller doses.

The article is right that Tylenol is one of the leading causes of liver failure.

What I’ve always thought is interesting is the preference of the medical community for Tylenol over aspirin or ibuprofen.

Seven standard Tylenol taken at once will kill your liver. Suicide in a bottle. If your stomach isn't pumped very promptly, just call the coroner.

I find this interesting. Obama has said that old people should be given painkillers instead of more aggresive treatments.

Why make painkillers harder to get? Perhaps euthanasia is the goal.

My mom has been taking the ax dose of Excedrin for decades will little effect. I do worry though about stomach bleeding, which supposedly can happen at any time in addition to liver damage.

Johnson & Johnson did VERY heavy marketing to the medical community

Nannies, I have a prescription that would had O.D. me if I had followed the label.

The current packaging is safer if you read it than these crazy restrictions.

Tylenol is horrid for the liver.

I very rarely take a full dose and prefer plain aspirin.

I don’t trust the FDA much at all . . .

particularly given their rush to ban vitamins and supplements.

THAT’S a conspiracy.

Hideous.

Great. Those of us allergic to salicylates will no doubt not have to worry for long about Obama Care
