Church 'out of touch' as public supports equal rights for homosexuals

Rosemary Bennett

A revolution in attitudes towards gay men and lesbians is indicated in a poll which shows that a majority of the public want homosexuals to share identical rights...

Just 40 years after homosexual acts were legalised, and only nine years since the age of consent was equalised, 61 per cent of the public want gay couples to be able to marry just like the rest of the population, not just have civil partnerships.

Half (49 per cent) believe that gay couples should have equal adoption rights, eight years after it became legal for them to adopt in a highly controversial move by Tony Blair.

Some Roman Catholic adoption agencies are fighting to retain the right to turn away gay couples, which they are now specifically prohibited from doing.

But perhaps the most surprising discovery is that 51 per cent of the public want children to be taught in school that gay relationships are of equal value to marriage.

The famous row over Section 28, which prevented the “promotion” of homosexuality in schools was a defining moment in the 1980s. It was only repealed in 2003. Iain Duncan Smith, the Conservative leader at the time, and dozens of Tory MPs opposed it.

Overall, 68 per cent of the public back “full equal rights” for gay men and lesbians, suggesting that the Church, the final bastion of formal discrimination, is out of touch with public opinion.

Although last month the Church of Scotland upheld the election of the first openly gay minister, the Church of England is still split over the issue. No practising homosexual has been put forward as a candidate for a bishopric since Geoffrey John was proposed, then rejected, as Bishop of Reading.

I wonder if the London Times checked in with God about this. The REAL problem here is that the “public” is out of touch with the church. There seems to be a lot of that going around these days.

Church 'out of touch' as public supports equal rights for homosexuals

James 4:4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

Its just the way it is...

68% of the limeys think the Church is out of touch regarding the homos? That’s normal. Now what would the Muslims think about this?

Excellent Scripture that you cited.

I can’t believe these headlines. I’m always wondering what God must think, as the world seems to think that He and His Word should bow to the pressures of society.

It’s not gonna happen!

I support equal rights for homosexuals. They already have equal rights in this country. I just don’t support special rights for them. I don’t believe in giving them the special right to change the definition of marriage to suit their deviant lust and desire for the world to acknowledge their behavior as wonderful.

Their actions are vile and degenerate. There is no need to elevate them above everyone else.

Homosexuals already have the exact same rights as heterosexuals.

Nobody, gay or straight, has ever had the right to everyone’s approval of his or her lifestyle.

The Lord God Almighty wrote the rules. His creation, His statutes. End of subject.

So, the church is supposed to change to meet the expectations of today’s modern sinners?

...Same as it always was...
Although the 2nd Psalm does a wonderful job pointing us to Christ, it also answers your question...

Psalms 2:1-5 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure...

If you have ever lived in England, you would not be surprised that the majority of the population sees nothing wrong with homosexuality. Even though it has a state church, it is a totally secular society. I was told by an Anglican priest that three-fourths of the Anglican clergy is homosexual. I have no way of knowing if he is correct or not, but from my experience of having lived in an Anglican college, I believe it to be true. As far as the Brits are concerned, God is dead, and they live as if he is dead.

"Its just the way it is... "

Those who would be their own god do not want to hear that ANYTHING is "just the way it is".

They'll have it whatever way suits them.

The NIV should not be read because it is a corrupted and edited version of the Bible, with the word ‘sodomite’ removed. Fact is, the NIV was edited by sodomites!

Go figure!

Who are the “sodomites” who edited the NIV?

The Catholic Church will not bend to the beliefs of the dying British. The Church has been in existence for over 2,000 years. it has a much better chance of making it another 2,000 than the British do.

I am quite certain that the fall of the Western World will be paved by the degenerate Sodomites and careless fornicators. There time is limited. The Church of Rome is eternal on Earth as it is in Heaven.
