[history]
A Chicago police officer avoided jail time today for pummeling a woman who was tending bar, even though prosecutors produced a previously unseen video showing him beating someone else at the bar hours earlier.
Anthony Abbate was sentenced to two years probation for beating Karolina Obrycka in February of 2007. He could have gotten up to five years for the attack, which was captured by the bar's security camera and shown around the world.

Soon he will wakeup and ask, where am I, why does my face hurt so bad and where are my underpants?

Now that the po-lice department is on record
as being aware of the officer’s tendencies
the po-lice department lawyer-ers
will insist that he be removed from the po-lice department
lest any future displays of his, now documented, tendencies
put the po-lice department in jeopardy of legal action.

Nah, it’s enough to make me want to puke...every time some innocent person gets jacked up by the cops...but it’s like plane crashes...you only hear about the catastrophes, not the million successes...

You are a lunatic. You are cut from the same cloth as the barking moonbats who try to smear all members of the military when one or two do something wrong.
There are bad apples in EVERY bunch. The bad apples deserve to be picked out and thrown away. This guy was obviously a bad apple, but you can't paint everyone with the same brush.

Thats bullshit...the crap they have to deal with every day, the murderers thugs and thieves, the ACLU and being hated by the thugs that are always hiding behind bullshit aggressive lawyers looking for an easy buck...God bless them, every oone...the percentage of stories you like this is so small in the number of inceidents they handle each day, it can hardly be measured...
Nonsense.
This is an example of the 99% giving the other 1% a bad name.
Note how not only did this thug cop beat the crap out of a little girl but his buddies all flew in to lie to protect him.
This happens all the time. Cops won't turn in their rogue members and they will protect dick cops like this to the very end.
And the courts refuse to deal with these "legal" gang-bangers appropriately.
The whole thing results in the vicious cycle of cops being despised by the public for being thugs and justifying being thugs because they are despised.
Problem is we pay them for this and we dont deserve to be mistreated by them in exchange.

How about the "bad apples" who lied for him and tried to cover up his crime?
The 99% give the 1% a bad name. . .

In most states, this poor woman would have a way to protect herself. But not in Illinois. Thanks a lot, TV Jessee Jackson and your corrupt buddies.

Those interested in this case and curious about the Chicago police rank and file reaction to this incident can go here:
“And any civilians or media types looking to start shit, just about every single reader here deplored Abbate’s actions and called for his firing. We also uncovered numerous instances where Abbate should have been fired before or never even hired. It was the political structure that permitted this aberration to occur, not the men and women who serve and protect honorably day in and day out.

Good lord. If you or I beat up this off duty cop in a bar we would get 5 years at least.
This is an outrage.

OK. I can tell when I’m wasting my time. 99% giving the other 1% a bad name? You got your numbers right, they’re just backwards.

I think that some police forces tolerate this sort of misconduct more than others. The cops here in Utah in my experience have been entirely professional and we don’t get many stories about out of control cops. When we do they are often fired. LA on the other hand has a real problem with rogue cops and falsifying evidence. Every city differs.
It’s difficult for cops to speak out because they never know who will be backing them up in tough situations. Serpico comes to mind.
