I currently have a subscription to XM satellite radio. They will soon be increasing the rates $2 per month because of a pass through of royalty rates. I am a grad student and as much as I love the radio, I am not sure I will be able to afford these new rates.
One of my favorite things about the radio, however, is that I get to listen to America Right which gives me 24-7 conservative talk radio with a perfect signal and from some of my favorite names in the business (Beck, Hannity, Levin, Wilkow etc.). Any idea how I can still get uninterrupted conservative talk in my car? my problem is that i drive a lot and used to go through the AM stations but they usually die out.
I have an IPOD which I figured might be useful to put some podcasts on but it seems that (besides Levin) I cannot find any conservative radio hosts besides Boston's WTKK local hosts (Michael Graham, Jay Severin)..... even Limbaugh requires you to pay to be in his special group.... any help at all about what I can do would be greatly appreciated
WLW podcast....Willy Cunningham
Sorry, because I wasn’t too clear... the problem with podcasts is that most of them require you to become a paid member of the show’s group and I can’t afford that
Thanks
I can’t help you with XM radio......I just listen to my local talk radio station and if I can’t get that signal.....I go to RUSH on my iPOd.....
Better yet, why can’t somebody make a car radio bright enough to shift to classical music during commercials on talk radio and then shift back when the commercials were over??
Until you can affordably get wifi in your car, you are left with either podcasts or satellite (or a good schedule of stations).
You can stream audio from radiotime.com if you are web based. Many hosts are found there with different broadcast schedules.
And yes, it is a new trend that all of the syndicated hosts offer a “members” podcast for download. Rush may have been the first but the pack followed his lead.
It’d be nice if townhall or one of the other networks that syndicates a number of hosts offered a bundled discount on podcast access.
Well, you could take Mrs. Lucky along with you. She’s as conservative as it gets and she never shuts up.
If you just wanted conservative TALK wherever you go, just marry. Odds are, on long trips she won’t shut up.
Stick a CD in your CD player. And play 3-5 minutes of music when they go to break.
Many of the programs schedule their breaks at regularly timed intervals.
Rush will blow through his breaks at time which is why he must then have several smaller segments to keep get all of the ads on air.
roflol!
You are going to be in so much trouble if she reads this!
Does anyone have a solution?
Paying to listen to radio may be your first problem if money is a concern. I would rather have money, but not be able to listen to radio, then to have radio and no money.
Gee just give up a Big Mac and fries one day and you can afford the two bucks! Problem solved.
Digital internet radio will give you all the free talk radio you need, and from all over the world—but only if you are in range of WiFi. So you’d really have to be at home (or some other place with free WiFi) to enjoy it.
well the problem with satellite is that I am currently paying a special rate of $77/yr which is more than do-able for me... but, with the changes they are getting rid of this special rate and jumping it up to the full $154 plus the $2/month ($24/yr) royalty increase so it would go to $178/yr or I can buy a lifetime now and take off the remaining part of my 1 year subscription for $360
if I had to choose it would probably make more sense to just go for the lifetime (which can transfer onto at least 3 radios) than just one more year but I am considering nixing it all together.... I love the service but the prices are skyrocketing out of control and customer service is terrible
but if I can’t find podcasts or other viable alternative, I am not 100% positive I would cancel
I’ve used Replay Radio in the past and had good luck with it. As long as there is a feed on the internet, it will record it.

A few years ago before radio shows started podcasting I used a RadioShark.
http://www.amazon.com/Griffin-Technology-RadioShark-Time-Shift-Recording/dp/B0001WW3F2
It is a AM/FM receiver which connects to a computer via USB and can record broadcasts into audio files for later playback. Somewhat like TIVO but for radio.
