Family Outraged After Officer Shoots Their Dog (5 lb Chihuahua)

CINCINNATI, OH -- A Blue Ash family is outraged after returning home to find their dog had been shot and killed by a police officer.

The dog was a Chihuahua-mix named “Jack” that Scott and Sharon Bullock had given to their 12-year-old son for his birthday a few years ago.

When the Bullocks returned home from a family member's funeral on Friday, they found blood and three bullets on their front porch – along with a note to call the Blue Ash Police Department about their dog.

The Bullocks were shocked to learn that Jack had gotten out of the backyard and two officers who tried to catch him, ended up shooting and killing him right on the family's front porch.

"He was cornered on the porch and scared," said Sharon Bullock. "The officer bent down bare-handed to pick up Jack, and Jack bit him."

"My five-year-old cried himself to sleep the night before last, wanting his dog," said Sharon Bullock.

"He ‘barks’ for him" added Scott Bullock. "He'd ‘bark’ and Jack would always come to him, so he's outside going ‘Bark bark bark,’ hoping he's gonna come back. It's heartbreaking."

The Bullocks told their five-year-old and three-year-old sons that Jack ran away.

The Bullocks admit they were at fault for leaving their dog outside, and are sorry the officer was bitten, but they say their dog was not a vicious animal and had never bitten anyone before.

They're wondering why the officers didn't call the SPCA to catch the dog.

"They didn't make that phone call other than to come scoop the dog off the porch after they shot him," said Scott Bullock. "Two grown men that can't gather up a five-pound dog – and they're trained police officers – sounds ridiculous to me."

That officer later explained to the family that he was following procedure.

The Blue Ash Police Department has not returned 9News’ calls for comment on this incident.

The family says there were two officers involved. One was bitten. The other officer tased, then shot the dog three times.

Doesn't surprise me. I once called 911 to help get two big lost dogs off a major road before an accident happened. I got one of the dogs to come to me, but the arriving officer, after trying unsuccessfully to get the other dog (who was clearly scared), pulled out his gun and was going to shoot it. I went nuts! I lived a few minutes away and made the cop swear he wouldn't shoot the dog. I went home for my 'dog kit' but expected to come back to a dead dog. Surprisingly, the dog was still alive and I managed to get him to come to me.

I was utterly shocked this cop pulled his gun, especially on a busy road with homes (and playing children) across the street. Idiot. Thankfully, he took the dogs to the county hold up and brought my leashes, etc. back to my house.

Good Lord...tazed AND shot???
It's OK for THESE guys to have guns, but not a "right-wing extremist" such as myself??? SHEESH!
If these pusillanimous mental giants can't deal with a feisty five-pound puppy, how in the hell can they deal with a 250-lb crackhead?
If they have this much lack of self-control using deadly force against a small frightened animal, they should not be trusted to "protect and serve".
Sue the dept and fire the bastards.

Too bad they didn’t write common sense into their ‘procedures’.

Procedural question re: adding topics—

I tried to add “pets” to the topic, but I get a “pets” is unknown message.

I know I’ve been able to add “pets” to a topic in the past, but there are other times I can’t add a topic (and this is when there are less than 4 topics currently identified).

Does anyone know why this sometimes work and sometimes doesn’t?

This proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that local cops need SWAT teams and automatic weapons.

/sarcasm so heavy a crane couldn’t lift it

Actually, the dog was “a few years old”

“The dog was a Chihuahua-mix named “Jack” that Scott and Sharon Bullock had given to their 12-year-old son for his birthday a few years ago.”

But I have found that with small dogs, they remain “puppy crazy” for longer than the big dogs I’ve owned. My Pap is going on her fourth year. We still call her Minnie the Maniac. Love her to pieces and would NEVER want this to happen to her or any pup.

Absolutely pathetic.

Which is just about all our police are good for these days.

The family was at fault for leaving the dog unattended. How could they have been so stupid? The dog could have been stolen for medical research or lifted up by a hawk.

That said, the officers need to undergo an examination for shooting an animal on its front porch. They'll probably weasel out of any punishment by claiming the animal could have been rabid, yada yada.

I hate idiot cops that give the rest a bad name even more.

Yeah. That 99% sure does give that 1% a bad name.

I hope this is not sarcasm, because it’s the truth.
One of the FReepers had a Pom tied on his deck in the southern part of MI. A Coyote took the poor thing out.

Small dogs come with big risks. The cop was horrid, but the dog could have been run over by a car too.

BS. Show everyone what the "procedure" is then.

Yet another example of how duplicity has become an unwritten requirement for modern police work.

Which in turn is a perfectly legitimate reason for many fine, upstanding, Americans to "dislike" practitioners of the "law industry."

Three bullets were used on this little 5 pound dog?

Outrageous.

I'm afraid a significant majority fit this description.

Cowardly pig pops pup, SOP.

If you have pets, you had better pray those trigger happy jackboots don’t tromp to your door, your dogs will likely not survive the encounter.

I know a few. My Dad is retired LEO.

Most of the ones I've met really are just trying to do the right thing. Others though, they should never have been let out of reform school or off their Mother's leading strings.

These bozos should in no way be allowed to carry a firearm - they are a menace to anyone they encounter as they are obviously:

1) Stupid
2) Untrained
3) Sociopaths
