Has Microsoft, after more than 20 years of work, finally come up with an operating system that rivals the Mac OS? Are the two just different flavors of the same GUI?
Hadley Stern, writing for Apple Matters, thinks this might be the case.
It may have taken Microsoft 20 odd years to figure this one out but there is some pretty big news on the horizon. Of course the market-share battle is lost for Apple, although it continues to chip away here and there. But the innovation-share battle continues. And the big big big news:
Windows 7 Doesnt Really Suck
Unless Apple is hiding something very very very big with Snow Leopard Apple is about to lose the high-ground (and bullying rights) when it comes to its operating system. The blunders of Vista were easy to pick at, picking on Windows 7 will be nitpicking at best, stupidity at worst. For all intents and purposes Snow Leopard and Windows 7 are two flavors of the same GUI.
Im not so sure. Why?

lol what sort of failure rate?...lol
Literally every single Apple product we have purchased has failed at some point. I wish I could convince my kids to switch to a different music device so I wouldn’t have to keep buying Apple.
In regard to iTunes...the product is more like a virus than a music player.
It would be interesting to know how and why those products failed. You’ve got quite the unique situation on your hands there.
no worries...I have many, many computers and electronic devices and most of them just work fine.
and...I always conduct myself properly if you catch my drift... :)
Typically we are very early adopters and that is probably the primary issue.
We actually started buying iPods from HP because of their return policy...they would actually swap them out for us.
We also usually get the most advanced version.
So basically early adoption with advanced features does lead to a higher failure rate. The main problem with Apple for us is they never would support it. The battery failures on the iPods were pretty crazy and they wouldn’t swap the batteries.
Early adoption is not a root cause of failure. I’m an early adopter of the aluminum MacBook, the 3G iPhone, the iPod Touch, the 1G and 2G iPod Nano, and several other devices, with 0% failure rate or issues.
Maybe you are the unique one. I have spoken to several people that have experienced similar problems that I have. You are the first person that I have spoken to that has NOT had any problems.
My G4 had several problems, hard drive failure (2), video failure and finally a motherboard failure.
What do you think?
If you want on or off the Mac Ping List, Freepmail me.
is there a 64 bit os7?
Conversation? War? We shall see. Thanks for the ping...
Yes.
Have you heard about its stability. I am using Vista 64 bit. complicated and nothing works with it.
My next door neighbor, who's a software engineer, has it on one of his rigs. He loves it.
I downloaded a copy with the intention of installing it on one of my machines, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.
But, with any 64 bit OS, you may/will have problems running some/many 32 bit apps, FYI.
And Win 3.1 was just a gui on DOS 5. But a stable usable and friendly GUI make a damn big difference and adds functionality.
Both true. However, resolution independent font and graphic magnification without zooming IS built into Apple Safari 4 Beta.
Are you running XP or Vista? Firefox 2 or 3?
You know, I haven't. All the apps (games) that I own work just fine in W7. AOEIII did work in the beta release, but it works just fine now.
2. Just how slow does your laptop feel after running an i7 at more than twice the mhz speed? "
The i7 is amazing. The older laptop is my daughter's, but my 2.53Ghz Dell seems like a machine from the 90's in comparison to the i7. I encoded a DVD yesterday in 12 minutes, start to finish that used to take 45 or more minutes in my old 2.50Ghz set-up before I built the new rig.
I have read that W7 isn't any faster than Vista, but from my own experience, I think it is, FWIW. As an aside, if you're thinking of buying one, don't waste your money on any RAM above 6GB. I sprung for 12GV and the OS NEVER uses even half of it. If you're doing some professional photo work or GD, maybe it's worth it, if not, 6GB is plenty.
LOL....Way to go!
