The FBI is investigating after Continental Airlines pilot reports seeing a 'missile

facefwd.com<>The FBI is investigating after a Continental Airlines pilot with military training reported seeing a 'missile or rocket' flying straight at his aeroplane. The pilot spotted the unidentified object flying towards his commuter flight on Friday night at 8.09pm shortly after take-off from Bush Intercontinental Airport in Texas. It barely missed the passenger jet, passing just 100 feet below it. It is not known how many were people on board the regional Continental Express flight to Greenville in South Carolina.

The flight was a Continental Express flight, part of Continental Airlines The pilot immediately contacted officials, who brought in the Federal Aviation Administration to investigate. 'The FAA then contacted the Liberty County department dispatcher and reported their pilot reported an object flying straight at his aircraft and passed 100 feet under it,' Ken DeFoor, chief deputy for the Liberty County Sheriff’s Department, was quoted as saying in local media. 'The pilot, from what we understand, was former military,' a police spokesman said. 'He was able to get the coordinates down real quick.'

Last night the FBI met with the sheriff's department and the FAA to discuss the sighting. 'While we have no information to indicate there was a criminal act we certainly do not rule anything out and certainly would not want to speculate on what it may or may not have been,' an FBI spokeswoman said. Police said local hobbyists do set off rockets in the area, but that a search yielded no evidence of anyone doing so.

They are still debriefing the pilot on what he saw. 'We are going to try and come up with a more definite track of this object and its path,' a spokesman said. 'We are trying to find out where it came from, where it went, and who may be responsible for it.'

...jet was about 6,000 feet in altitude...when the event occurred...authorities believe it was possibly a flare or a "bottle rocket."

First of all, the "authorities" are stupid and just damn fools...second, I wish I could find a "bottle rocket" that would attain 6000'AGM.

That powers that be have decided that we, the sheeple, are just as stupid as they are.

Roman candle.

If so, I want one of those roman candles. 11,000 feet high is mighty cool for backyard fireworks!

Why does your link only lead to a FR search and not to an article about this? Link to article please.

After searching everywhere I know to look and finding no other reports about this, I've come to the conclusion this thread is bunk.

Where does it say 11,000 feet? The article I read (the one posted) said shortly after take-off. Military ordinance would have impacted somewhere in the vicinity.

The flight was over the southern edge of Liberty County flying at 13,000 feet when the incident occurred, officials said. ExpressJet flies regional routes for Continental Airlines as Continental Express.

Others have replied but your point about ordnance impacting is a good one.

Shouldn’t there have been reports of an explosion or heavy impact in the surrouinding area? What was in the run-out beyond the target? Uninhabited land, water-body?

Well, I guess that’s what the FBI is there for, right?

Missiles fired at airplanes, witnessed by pilots with military experience.

This event was thoroughly investigated by the Clinton administration and determined to be the manifestation of a faulty onboard fuel tank.

Mystery solved. We can go back to sleep now.
