I would add Randy Bachman, Joe Bonamassa and Brian Setzer to the list.

Yes, and the Allman Brothers Band opened for the Dead last weekend at the Gorge. Warren was one tired dude by the end of the night...

I agree — those three should be at the top of the list along with Jeff Beck.

Check out the live version of guitar boogie posted above....One of the best accoustic fingerstyle players out there IMO.

Wow, pretty cool. His band Govt Mule used to open for the Allmans I think, then he’d finish out the show with the Allmans, so I guess he’s had some practice with the marathon evenings. His calluses must be an eight of an inch thick..

Bad list - it omits far too many good guitarists. Eddie Van Halen stole his tapping style from Steve Hackett who was Genesis guitarist. Steve is very good.
Steve Howe is a lot better than Eddie Van Halen.

Steve Howe (Yes)
John McLaughlin (Mahavishnu Orchestra) Probably the fastest guitarist I have heard.
Steve Hackett (Genesis)
Robert Fripp
Dave Davies (invented heavy metal in You Really Got Me and no it was not Jimmy Page doing session work for the Kinks).
Steve Jones (Pistols and yes he is avery good)
I could name dozens more.

Id prefer a heroin intoxicated Keith Richards playing an out of tune open G chord with feeling then listen to Malmsteens 1,000 a note techno playing. I agree. It's the sound that matters, not how fast a guy can play.
Besides, Keith Richards deserves some kind of award just for still being alive.

George Harrison was a HUGE Chet fan. I think he picked up Chet’s picking style and played a black Gretsch like Chet.

Neil Young deserves inclusion to this club on the strength of his one note gtr solo on Cinnamon Girl.

You should check out the Stones 1973, at the Foret Nationale in Belguim. Mick Taylot owned the stage... Perhaps the best the Stones ever were. I agree with Jeff Beck, he should be on the list and current day Joe Bonamassa. Then again Roy Buchannan, the world's best unknown guitarist should be on the list.

I know I’ll catch $hit for this, but I think John Mayer is a top 20 guitarist. I saw him on Austin City Limits with Buddy Guy. He’s a hell of a good blues guitarist.
