Reporting from Indianapolis -- Danica Patrick's ability to market herself is without question. But can she win another race?

Patrick will make her fifth attempt Sunday to win her sport's biggest prize, the Indianapolis 500, the race that rocketed her to stardom when she led and nearly won it in 2005, her rookie year.

Getting to the front won't be easy. The 1-2 starters, pole-sitter Helio Castroneves and Ryan Briscoe, drive for powerhouse Team Penske

And the IndyCar Series' other leading team, Target Chip Ganassi Racing, has 2007 Indy 500 winner Dario Franchitti starting third and defending Indy 500 winner and series champion Scott Dixon starting fifth.

In 66 career starts, she has 1 win and 3 top three places. She was was 23rd fastest in the final practice on Friday. Starting in the #10 spot for the race.

Apparently winning hasn’t been easy for the vast majority of drivers.

It’s pretty obvious that in the long run only a small percentage of drivers become winners ~ it’s a rare event to win.

A fact lost on the incredible number of Anna Kournakova critics out there (and on this board).

Anna was at one time ranked #7 in the world (before suffering a series of injuries), yet you would think she didn’t know which end of a racket to hold listening to some.

I wonder how many of them have ever been ranked #7 in the world at THEIR profession.

True true, but then what is the Danica brand name she has promoted all about.

It seems no one is neutral about Danica. I dont know that she really has it in her to go flat out and run with drivers like Castroneves in a wide open race. A person can get killed that way. And if she doesnt have it, I hope she does not try to drive beyond her abilities. But this question may also be moot, her car might not be competitive enough to get up to the front.

She is a hottie, but really doesn't deserve extra attention in racing just because she has 2 x chromosomes.

She doesn’t get her testosterone the old fashined way. Good thing for her that they don’t do durg testing in racing.

There was a time I was the world's foremost authority regarding postal mailing labels ~ the tags you print out to slip in the holders on your letter or flat trays.

I was supplanted for a while by a gentleman who discovered that no one was actually doing 3 digit sorts.

He held the status as world's foremost authority until he died a few months later when it reverted to me, and then I got a detail to something more relaxing and a young lady took over that category of exceedingly important knowledge and held it for a good 5 years.

None of this was a joke since our knowledge and understanding of which direction ought to be taken to regularlize and standardize a dynamic system that controlled the expenditure of up to $20 billion per year was obviously important.

It took constant work to stay in top form so that the rules could be revised in a meaningful way and to avoid confusion to tens of thousands of truck drivers and hundreds of thousands of postal distribution clerks and mailhandlers.

Danica was at the top of her game a decade back. She can get there again. Like all the drivers in the 500 she can win if she can keep her tires on the track.

She has millions of fans who wish her well. Now if she had a bit more upper body strength she would probably have won that and other races several times by now.
