About the Mac OS X 10.5.7 Update

  • Last Modified: May 12, 2009
  • Article: HT3397

Summary

The 10.5.7 Update is recommended for Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard and includes general operating system fixes that enhance the stability, compatibility and security of your Mac. For detailed information about security updates, please visit this website.

Important: Read below before installing.

Products Affected

Mac OS X 10.5, Mac OS X 10.5.1, Mac OS X 10.5.2, Mac OS X 10.5.3, Mac OS X 10.5.4, Mac OS X 10.5.5, Mac OS X 10.5.6

Installing the update

To update to Mac OS X 10.5.7, use Software Update or the standalone installer. You only need to use one of these methods to update your computer.

Software Update

Choose Software Update from the Apple menu to automatically check for the latest Apple software using the Internet, including this update. (Software Update might have linked you to this article to learn more about the update.) If your computer is not up-to-date, other software updates available for your computer may appear which you should install. Note that an update's size may vary from computer to computer when installed using Software Update. Also, some updates must be installed prior to others, so you should run Software Update more than once to make sure you have all available updates.

Standalone installer

Download the update installer and run it manually. This is a useful option when you need to update multiple computers but only want to download the update once. These versions of the standalone installers are available from Apple Support Downloads.

The Mac OS X 10.5.7 Update is recommended for all versions of Mac OS X 10.5 through 10.5.6.

I wish it would bring back the refresh/stop loading button to the custom toolbar in the beta of Safari 4. :-(

I always wait a few days in case a show stopper bug shows up.

Unless it’s a critical, exploited security flaw, it never hurts to wait a couple days and let everyone else be the final round of beta testers.

I’m with you, gonna wait. I haven’t had it connected to the web anyway and haven’t turned it on for a couple weeks.

WARNING: Do not waste your time on this now, wait a day or so.

I tried 4 times and made 2 calls to a tech... final word is the system is overloaded with too many of us downloading at the same time.

I tried to update using the Software Update. Couldn’t do it because it didn’t recognize a digital signature?

I went to Apple Rumor’s website where I got the link to Apple’s download link.

The download did okay, but when I tried to restart, it wouldn’t restart. It was like in a loop of some sort. I turned the iMac off (I know, a stupid thing to do). It almost didn’t restart, but finally kicked in and everything is up fine.

I did turn it completely off and restart it and it’s fine now.

But man, I was praying hard, LOL.

Unfortunately we cannot use this because it doesn’t support Classic and certain DNA editing programs that haven’t been updated that use Classic.

Thanks, I’ll check it out and pass it on to my boss. Maybe we’ll all be able to get new 24” iMacs.

Don’t try to run OS 9.2 on Sheepshaver... it will bomb out on you. I think Sheepshaver will run up to 9.0.4

Download and install Safari Buddy 1.0 and install it. Once you have set the progress indicator back to the blue bar, customize your tool bar (Safari Menu Bar, View, Customize Toolbar...) and put the stop/reload button and the Add Bookmark button back on your tool bar. Voila! Done.

I like to add the Print and Home Button as well.

Safari Buddy can also reset the TABS to the bottom of the tool bar instead of on top, turn-off the smart Google suggestions and the smarter URL entry. I put the tabs back where they belonged, and kept the rest.
