An internationally known Catholic priest sometimes called "Father Oprah" has been removed from his posts in Florida after published photos showed him lying down bare-chested in an embrace with a woman on a beach. The photos of the Cuban-American priest appeared on the cover of this week's TV Notas magazine. 1 of 2 The Rev. Alberto Cutie (pronounced koo-tee-AYE) -- who got the nickname "Father Oprah" because of the advice he gives on Spanish-language media -- remains a priest. But he was relieved Tuesday of his duties at St. Francis De Sales Church in Miami Beach, Florida, and at the Radio Paz and Radio Peace networks, said a "deeply saddened" Miami, Florida, Archbishop John C. Favalora.

Aren’t Roman Catholic priests in Africa and some other places allowed to marry?

No but many in every country don’t respect their vows. This guy was too public with his private life.

Father Cutie isn’t the most unfortunate name ever for a clergyman — that honor goes to the late Cardinal Sin — but it’s up there.

I believe that they were released from their vows of chastity in Africa.

I’m not Catholic, so it’s really none of my business, but I can’t understand the problem they have with allowing priests to marry.

That bigoted statement is uncalled for. If you have issues with the Catholic faith, don’t use this wayward priest as an excuse to air it here.

Actually it represents a fair number of people who claim to be Catholic. Heck some prominent Catholic leaders support abortion publically and some prominent Catholic universities support abortionists.

So the Catholic church is full of hypocrits just like many Protestant churches.

Thats mostly because they are all made up of sinners.

Now THAT I can agree with. There are sinners in every church.

Max’s comment went beyond the individual and was a comment against the faith as a whole.

The one difference I see is that Baptists leaders (SBC) tend to toe the line a bit more. The Catholic church has done little to stop politicians from using their Catholic religion to push things like abortion.

If the Catholic organizations/leaders did more to live their faith I would have more respect for them.

Nobody’s perfect but the silence is deafening.

I think you’ve been hiding under a rock. Many leaders in the Catholic Church in this country have spoken out about these pro-choice “Catholics.” The thing is, it’s not the church;s bisiness to force people to act accordingly. Nor was that Jesus’ tactic. We have freedom of choice. Morals can not be forced upon people. The bishops and priests can do nothing but encourage and discipline these people, but the choice is ultimately theirs. God will be their final judge.

“Many leaders in the Catholic Church in this country have spoken out about these pro-choice “Catholics.” “

And yet the leaders continue to push abortion, death for old and sick people, and promiscuity. All the while being permitted to partake in the holy sacrament of communion.

“The bishops and priests can do nothing but encourage and discipline these people, but the choice is ultimately theirs.”

I see some encouragement but little discipline. In my church people who lead immoral lives are not allowed to be leaders.

"Aren’t Roman Catholic priests in Africa and some other places allowed to marry?"

Eastern Rite Churches, which are in communion with Rome, permit their clergy to marry.

These idiots know they are not supposed to receive holy communion. They choose to ignore it ... “eating and drinking damnation upon themselves.” They’ve been told ... they’re ignoring the warnings.
