If you're feeling adventuresome, you can get a jump on the rest of the world by being one of the first to try out Windows 7, the next version of Windows. I've tested out the beta version for the last few months and, so far, my experience has been quite positive.
Microsoft still hasn't announced the date of the final commercial version of the upcoming operating system, though it's widely expected to be out by the end of this year. But Microsoft is allowing anyone to download and install a free copy of the operating system so it can be tested on a wide range of machines. Windows 7 RC, as it's called, was made available for public testing May 4th and will be available for free "at least through July" to those willing to go through a few hurdles......
Never heard of Windows 7 until now. I’ll check back to see what folks are saying about it. Thanks.
DRM, overpriced. Those are 2 I can think of.
There are some flashy new ‘thingies’; but is there a compelling reason to abandon XP? Vista was a lemon, from everything I’ve read, Win7 is basically a re-launch of Vista with the exception of ‘this one doesn’t suck’.
What am I getting for my money? One cannot upgrade your PC from XP to Win7. You will have to backup your applications and all of your data. Win7 will want to wipe your drive.
What will my PC do tomorrow, that it doesn’t do today?
It’s like MS has become unionized. Don’t kill the job, make sure we release so that we can release another release for the previous release which was the fix for the release.
The programs come like the approaching stars screen saver. You never get there, but you feel as if you were getting there.
LOL - Too true.... Vista is horrid.
Screw MS and their shills who have gone further than just protecting intellectual content to Democrat-style big brother intrusion.
Did I not read a post here a few weeks ago that some high MS official said that Windows 7 was actually a huge Vista service pack but they just decided to call it something else so it might sell better?
I heard that the current version going around has a Trojan virus inside.
you can check other sources to verify my claim.
I’ve been happy with XP. See no reason to change.
WOW! That’s about all I can say about Windows 7. I have been using this since the Beta, and the Release Candidate (available free for a year) is OUTSTANDING. It runs well even as low as 1GB Ram on a 1GHz machine. It takes about 16GB disk for a full install with Office etc. It upgrades smoothly from Vista. There is no direct upgrade from XP to W7 but a clean install will FLY on most machines. I moved all my XP machines directly to W7 skipping Vista. The few Vista machines I had (they came that way) upgraded nicely and now perform much better. Backup your documents and important files, as always, but I have not had to use any of those backups. This is what Vista should have been; It took a loss of between 6 and 20 Billion for MSFT to fix it, and a huge wait. Gartner has advised its corporate clients that they need not wait till Service Pack 1 to use this. Enjoy!
DRM?
I recntly bought a second hand XP PC on eBay, to replace my old Windows Me desktop. I learned my lesson when I bought a new laptop a couple of years ago, that came with Vista — no way am I getting stuck with another Vista-loaded PC (and I’m not going to pay Microsoft for the privilege of “downgrading” to XP). I really have no use for these endless “improvements” that Microsoft keeps putting out. Vista is worse than a bad joke. I expect that when XP eventually becomes really obsolete, I’ll switch over to Linux, unless Microsoft has reformed itself in a big way by then.
Is it possible to download this to a thumb drive and load it onto another computer? I currently have a pc that doesn’t have an OS and would like to install it there first before installing on my laptop.
Digital Rights Management. Anti-copy stuff. Plays havoc with anyone that runs a lot of music, video, custom content, etc...
It doesn't suck. It appears to be more stable than Vista. They cleaned things up a lot.
Still not sure it'll be worth the retail price to upgrade from XP.
