Australia is known around the world for its large and deadly creepy crawlies, but even locals have been shocked by the size of the giant venomous spiders that have invaded an Outback town in Queensland.
Scores of eastern tarantulas, which are known as bird-eating spiders and can grow larger than the palm of a mans hand, have begun crawling out from gardens and venturing into public spaces in Bowen, a coastal town about 700 miles northwest of Brisbane.

It's life, folks, if it scares you just stay under the bed!
I don't think Western civilization can get much more wuessified than it is! Most of us will just die of fear, any day now!

Oz has a not-to-stellar history of importing certain critters to combat other critters.
Then, they have to import a third critter to control the controller-critter.
etc, etc, etc.

Well, you have a choice.
You can call in Bill Shatner to attend...
OR,
You can just run like hell.

From the story:
They are also known as whistling or barking spiders for the hissing noise they emit when they are disturbed or aggravated at close range.

LOL The part when Shatner goes into the basement to check the fuses after the spiders invaded the town and surrounded the house. I’m thinking, “Bad move, Bill,” but thought it’s Shatner. He can handle himself.
And the lady who sees the spider on her hand...AND SHOOTS HER HAND OFF TRYING TO KILL IT?!

"They are also known as whistling or barking spiders..." That's not the kind of "barking spider" I'm accustomed to....

I’ve always wondered where that term came from....

That's not the kind of "barking spider" I'm accustomed to....That is what I thought. The ones I am used to are associated with a foul odor.
