Late soldier’s sister ticketed, misses event

CLEVELAND (AP) — The sister of an Ohio soldier killed in Iraq was ticketed for speeding and missed a ceremony awarding him a posthumous Bronze Star and Purple Heart.

The ticket was issued by a state trooper to 25-yearold Rebecca Davis of Cuyahoga Heights along Interstate 77 on Thursday despite her request for a warning and to call and confirm her situation.

The ticket was withdrawn about three hours later when a State Highway Patrol lieutenant went to the funeral home and apologized. A relative of Davis, who is a police officer, had called to complain about the ticket.

She was ticketed heading to an award ceremony for 21-year-old Spc. Brad Davis of Garfield Heights, who was killed last week in a roadside bomb explosion in Iraq. Burial was planned for Friday

I used to be a big supporter of police but the last 10 years has really opened up my eyes. I now call them REO’s (Revenue Enhancement Officers).

The apology doesn't meant the officer was wrong, it just means she pulled strings to get an apology and that is WRONG MISTER. (said in my best Ron White voice)

if it was such an important event, why didn’t she make enough time to arrive safely and not speed? Sounds like she was late already. I’ve gotten tickets and it only takes 5 min. Not enough time for her to miss the entire event.

I have had that discussion with my daughter but now if we are meeting somewhere for dinner I tell her to be there 30 minutes before we are arriving.

Bullshit. You have no proof of that. The article stated that a relative called the cops to complain. What the cops did after that was entirely their call.

They apologized. They were effectively stating with that apology that the cop who issued the ticket was wrong.

Now back to your donuts.

My wife lives by the “We are leaving at 8:10.”

At 8:10 it’s “Time to go, do you have you shoes, where’s your homework, did anybody see my keys, can’t find my glasses, hurry, hurry, where’s your lunch?”

Depart time is usually 8:20 and it takes 10 minutes to get the little one to school that starts at 8:30. Gotta shave a few seconds here or there or the little one will be late.

Now when I have the duty we get there about 8:15, maybe feed a pack of sugar to an ant hill, look at bugs on a tree, until the 8:25 bell rings and we can go inside.

Excuse me but explain why it is wrong for a cop to stop a speeder and give them a ticket?

Ask the police Lieutenant who withdrew the ticket being issued and offered a personal apology.

LOL! I have no way to do that I am asking you. You seem to think it was wrong, tell us why?

Just curious, if the girl was speeding, do you think she deserved the ticket?

I don’t have to tell you ‘why’, the actions of the officer’s superior(s) speak for themselves. If the ticket was truly legitimate and called for, they would have stood behind the officer and said “sorry for the inconvenience but the violation did occur and the ticket was warranted”.

They did not do that. They essentially threw the cop in question under the bus and apologized for the ticket, and the ticket was in fact withdrawn.

Draw your own conclusions.

I did draw my own conclusions and I think the person who complained (if it was not her) had enough pull to get the apology. That is not right. Maybe getting a dying person to the hospital would be a legitimate excuse for speeding and the cop would probably have given her an escort but she wasn't doing that. I want you to tell me why getting to an event no matter how important it was to her (or anyone) should allow her to speed?

I am still waiting for jessups reason why *he thinks she should not have been ticketed for speeding.

I remember now that he is one of the FR cop haters, which starts me wondering *why* he hates cops?

Apparently his superiors thought otherwise since they sent a senior officer to apologize personally.

"We are sorry that this happened. Please accept our condolescences." = Tell that chick to slow down so this doesn't happen again.

And what if she didn’t have a cop friend or relative?

Cop haters have every reason to be what they are. The police provide more than ample fodder.

If a cop turns out to have any common sense they fire him!
