Kelly McGillis, best known for playing teacher to Tom Cruise in "Top Gun," has confirmed long-held rumors that she's a lesbian, according to an interview on the website shewired.
"I'm done with the man thing," says McGillis, 51, who is twice married and twice divorced and has two teenage daughters. "I did that, I need to move on in life. It's a part of being true to yourself. That's been a challenge for me."
The Daily Mail says McGillis' sexual orientation was Hollywood's worst-kept secret. (Funny, we thought the worst-kept secret was that Jodie Foster was gay. Or John Travolta. We could go on.)
The Popeater.com blog says the announcement crushes "a million middle-aged hearts."

Let’s see...middle-aged actress; career’s not going anywhere, needs a little something to get herself back in the limelight. What’s the quickest way to accomplish that goal in today’s celebrity culture, why announce that you’re gay, of course.
Mark my words...Ms. McGillis will be popping up on all the talk shows (I’ll bet Ellen has already placed a call), and next we’ll hear about all of her “new” projects.
Some of these “coming outs” in Hollywood are little more than carefully-calculated publicity ploys. See Heche, Anne. After splitting up from Ellen DeGeneres, she suddenly rediscovered that she liked men afterall.

Why is this considered news? Inside info of a Nobody is supposed to inform and entertain or prepare me. Do you think this is a clever way to get free publicity on a couple of fronts. Is she needing money to eat and pay utility bills? Stupid is as stupid does.
