These are great commercials, they don’t necessarily get me buying the beer (I like Dos Equis but it’s not high on my list), but they sure do get me laughing.

He once dialed a wrong number, though the person on the other line wouldn’t admit it.

I remember it. I remember drinking it in Juarez. Most Mexican beer is made with corn which is an adjunct.

Well, I'm glad I wasn't imagining the Tres Equis. In later years I would ask for it, and they would look at me like I was loco. Since my post I did a Google search. Evidently, they quit brewing it in the late 60s.

It's safer than drinking the water!

Having grown up in South Texas, the story was that Mexicans reused bottle caps, and bottles. Being Mexicans, they did not wash the bottles well. Thus, we gringo's used a bit of lime to clean the neck, and thought WTH, just dump the lime in the beer. It was interesting and we were lazy. So, we started a trend. Now thousands of metrosexuals use lime in beer and have no clue as to why.

“Now thousands of metrosexuals use lime in beer and have no clue as to why.”

The Brits have been using lime in beer a lot longer than you South Texas gringo’s. And in Nebraska they use tomato juice and call it a “Red Beer”. Salt in beer is also something that goes way back.

I'll give you that, but can you tell me if the Brits had rusty reused Mexican bottle tops to contend with?

As for salt in beer, many of the old folks used to do that when I was a kid. I cannot address tomato juice and beer, vodka and Worcestershire maybe..

Try Einbecker Mai-Ur-Bock (if you can find it down there). It’s expensive, but it’s a neat taste with 6.5 percent CH3CH2OH.

Flying Dog Old Scratch Amber is nice, too (w/5.5 percent).
