Apple slams Microsoft in four new ‘Get a Mac’ ads (with video)
Mac Daily News ^ | Monday, April 20, 2009

Apple has debuted four new ads in its "Get a Mac" campaign on broadcast and cable television networks across the U.S. The new ads take direct aim at Microsoft Windows and the various woes it inflicts upon its sufferers. The "Biohazard Suit" spot targets Windows' inherent insecurity, rampant viruses, worms, and other assorted malware. "Legal Copy" highlights the fact that every Windows boast requires extensive legal disclaimers and qualifiers. "Stacks" explains iPhoto's facial recognition capabilities; sounds expensive, but it's free with every Mac. In "Time Traveler," PC takes a trip into the future to the year 2150 to see how Windows works. It still doesn't.

I love those commercials. Still wouldn’t buy a Mac, but love the ads.

Windows 7 is relatively good, and it’s decent competition for OS X Leopard. Too bad OS X Snow Leopard will be out soon.

Someone created a virus that runs on iPods that have been hacked to run Linux. How big do you think that market share is? The high three figures?

Applebores all remind me of the “Smiling Bob” character from the Enzite TV ads. Boring, one dimensional, and a severe inferiority complex where they have to constantly get the newest overpriced Apple gadget so they can run out and proclaim how they are, smarter than anyone else.
I have known several of them (and them is the best term). If you see one of them that you know in public and say hello, there response will be about their newest Apple purchase or it will be a condescending comment about your Windows computer.
The reality is most of them do not know how badly they are being screwed by Apple, most of them do not know anything about how a computer actually works and if they do get Adware on them (and it does happen) most just think it is a online ad from ITunes or Quicktime.

I have to run both platforms for software testing. I know which one I feel screwed by.

not be able to get as much computer market share as they could.

The make as much profit as either Dell or HP because they don't have to sell low end loss leaders to get the profitable market. I think Apple is happy to let them keep it.

They are just afraid that Windows 7 is going to clean their clocks. From the positive reviews it has received from beta testers Windows 7 sounds like a solid platform that corrects the mistakes made by V—— (blech).

I'm using Win7 and it's nice looking and slick and fast. It will marginalize Apple or at least force Apple to stall out at its current 10% market share

Re: condescension

The only ones posting on this thread that are showing condescension are Windows users who have never used a Mac. . . Like you Wooly.

I have been using Mac OS X for eight years, totally bare of any anti malware protection, and have NEVER seen any “adware.” That’s because it just does not exist for Macs dispute your claim that it does. Nor has there been any self- replicating, self-transmitting, self-installing viruses or spyware.

There are about 14 Trojan applications in the wild that use social engineering to trick Mac users into downloading and installing them.

No, they make as much as Dell and HP because, Applebores have to keep buying every time Apple comes out with a new model so they can, like Smil’in Bob, feel like they are bigger and better.

Win7 is using nearly the same exact kernel as Vista.

It’s basically Vista with more refinements and polish.

A tremendous amount of code has been refined because Microsoft wants Windows 7 to work great on netbooks
Only XP is deployed on netbooks. Vista is too kludgey. This is extremely embarrassing to Balmer, Gates et al

Plus Microsoft will demand a few bucks more from netbook manufacturers for Windows7 licenses rather than XP

You're the one trying to make the point that if only Macs had more users there'd be more viruses written for them. The fact that someone's created a virus for a Linux iPod shows that's a dumb position. For what reason would someone write that virus that wouldn't apply a million times more to the Mac user base?

I've been reading FUD from the PC people for a decade--"Oh, just wait. You'll get viruses as soon as Apple starts gaining market share." Well Apple's been gaining share for years, and there's still no sign of a virus.

My work server is five years old, my laptop is a G4 chip that runs the latest OS.

I could buy the latest hardware, but I’m not forced to by the OS release, unlike Windowsbores.

;)
