Sir Elliot Awesome Earhair A cat who lives up to his name

Alexandra "Alex" Hall of Los Gatos has one of the most unusually named cats I've come across: Sir Elliot Awesome Earhair. And there's a reason for that. "He's an 18-pound Maine coon with three-inch ear hair and a curly tail," Alex wrote to me.

As you can see in the photo, he does have long ear hair. And the tail is quite exceptional. Alex said Elliot's tail has about two inches of very thick bone and then the vertebrae are curled in a knot. In years past, Elliot doubtless would have ended up in a circus, but Alex and her husband adore him and love having him as part of their blended family of cats. When they married, Alex had Sir Elliot and Chelsea, a longhair white cat who eats Kitty Kaviar right out of the can, and her husband had Pugsley, who claims the head pillow spot, and Macky, a polydactyl with extra toes on each foot.

The East Bay SPCA named the cat, and Elliot had been at the shelter for months when Alex saw him. She was looking for a kitten "but he picked me," she said. "He came over and started nosing me, and as I drove home that day I kept wondering if I'd imagined him because he was so odd. But the next day, I went back and asked if they had a cat with ear hair and they all said, 'Oh, you mean Elliot. So that was that. I've been his mommy ever since."

We had a Maine Coon we rescued in the UK. Undoubtedly the best cats.....ever! ALL personality. Hubby named him ‘Oscar’..after Oscar Peterson.

What kind of newspaper features a story based on a visual oddity and then doesn’t provide a picture?
