So, as any good government does when they see an opportunity, the state has a bill this legislative session to tax microbrews 1000% or some God awful amount.

It ain’t the number of breweries it is the quality of the brew!

#1 place in the world for great beer is New Zealand. A distant #2 is Australia. #3 is the Eire. #4 is the United Kingdom. #5 is India. #6 is Canada. #7 is South Africa. #8 is Oregon. All others are FAIL.

Oregon is where the micro brew industry started. Portland has more breweries than any other city in the US. Bend, where I live has 5. The first micro brew I tried was at the Hillsdale Tavern (McMenamin Brothers) in Portland in about 1984. It was OK (a little green and under hopped), but I did not no any better. Now almost all the breweries produce excellent suds. My favorite brewery is Deschutes Brewery in Bend.

I concur, Oregon has the best beer in the country (especially for an IPA drinker). However, my fave is Widmer Bros. The Broken Halo IPA is a staple of mine.

Ha. It’s too much for me to hunt for. Maybe there’s someone on FR that already knows of a site with some of that info already collected. My hunch is that the winner will be a county that is within 300 miles of washington DC

My friend who I used to home brew with works for Widmer as a quality control manager. Must be tough. LOL

I'll stay right here in south Mississippi, thank you very much.

But I agree whole heartedly that UK beers are far and away better than anything coming out of Germany.
