Alleged Nazi guard gets stay of deportation

CLEVELAND - The return of alleged Nazi death camp guard John Demjanjuk to Germany for trial on war crimes was delayed again Tuesday by a federal court, shortly after six immigration officers removed the retired autoworker from his suburban Cleveland home in a wheelchair.

A three-judge panel of the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals granted a stay until it could further consider Demjanjuk's motion to reopen the U.S. case that ordered him deported, in which he says painful medical ailments would make travel to Germany torturous.

John Demjanjuk, second from right, is taken from his home in Seven Hills, Ohio by immigration agents, Tuesday. Demjanjuk was to be deported to Germany to face charges he was a guard at a Nazi death camp during World War II, but a federal appeals court stayed the deportation order

Anybody have a pool to see who’ll be deported first, this guy or Obama’s Massachusetts relative?

Israel already tried and convicted him as being another Nazi war criminal, and found he wasn't after spending years on death row.

He's not the guy they say he is now, either.

“...in which he says painful medical ailments would make travel to Germany torturous.

Nishnic said his former father-in-law moaned in pain as he was placed in the wheelchair.

It was horrendous. He was in such pain. I wouldn't want to see anyone go through something like that,” said granddaughter Olivia Nishnic, 20.”

While I'm sure this was hard on his family, it was infinitely more painful for the 29,000 who died and their families (if they survived).

Most bizarre aspect of this story is that this guy has been through deportation hearings involving something like four different countries other than the U.S. And I’m not sure any of them really has the proper legal jurisdiction to try him!

Ironic that he is accused of having committed atrocities on behalf of a socialist regime that deplored private property (the NAZIs) — and yet he has a “private property, no trespassing” sign in front of his home.

I know what the guy is accused of & I’m probably inviting flames by saying so, but there is something very wrong with a system that requires an 89 year old wheelchair bound person, who’s remaining life can probably be measured in weeks, be dragged off & deported.

Pat Buchanan's article on this: The True Haters

Pat, while irritating to many of us on so many topics, makes a good case for this being an over-zealous government witch hunt.

The Jews in Israel even overturned their own conviction of this man.

Enough is enough.

I have been reading about this since 1977. I was 10 years old. Back then I found it bizarre, now I just find the treatment of him horrific.

His neighbors, community and church all support him. ( I am sure a few don’t)

Whenever his case comes back in the news the usual suspects descend on his family and his home and harass them. This has been going on for over 30 years.

Think of that idiot with the GOD HATES FAGS as an example and then maybe the NO TRESPASSING sign would make sense.

You are correct.

What they have done to this man is an atrocity. The U.S. first claimed he was Ivan the Terrible, and it turned out he wasn’t. Now they say he’s responsible for 29,000 deaths because he allegedly worked at a camp. I have absolutely no faith in the Justice Department on this one. Let the man die in peace with his family

I agree. And I was 17-18 in 1977 here in Cleveland.

Enough is enough.

He was prosecuted for being the Ivan the Terrible at Treblinka also...the same time now he was also at the Sobibor camp...

So even if we ignore DOUBLE JEOPARDY we still have this magician of a man at two places at the same time...

Of course I wish he did not lie on his initial application for Visa..but had he not he would have been sent to Stalin and killed immediately. Still awaiting for a plausible reason or defense why he was re-granted citizenship if he is indeed this horrible mass murderer.

A swift shot to back of head the with a .45 is in order. I’ll be happy to do it.

Taken together with today's news about the DHS memo which was sent to law enforcement agencies throughout the country on 4/7, it really gives one cause for concern about the future of any American who finds themselves at odds with uncle sam.
