A former engineer at the top secret airfield "Area 51" in Nevada has spoken out about UFO sightings in the region in the 1960s, saying the witnessed flashes of light were part of top secret US aircraft experiments.
In an interview with ABC News, Thornton "T.D." Barnes, 72, a former special-projects engineer at Area 51 said: "No one really knew we existed. Even our wives didn't know where we were going when we left Monday morning and came back Friday evening."
Barnes was an electronics engineer for NASA who also specialised in advance radar and Soviet MiG fighter aircraft and was asked to join a team of CIA experts who would work on secret military projects at the infamous base.
UFO folklore has it that Area 51, about 80 miles north northwest of Las Vegas, is where captured aliens and their spacecraft have been stored by the US military. The conspiracy theory comes in part because of the preponderance of strange, unaccounted for lights that have been seen in the region of the top secret military base.
However Barnes poured cold water on the theory saying the "alien spaceships" were in fact light flashes from top secret spy planes being flown at 2,000 miles per hour at altitudes of 90,000 feet.
The experimental planes produced light flashes that some interpreted as alien spaceships and this was considered helpful by the team in covering their activities.
"We considered it to be a bonus," said Barnes. "They made it easier to conceal what we were doing."
However some ufologists have said the area has only been partly declassified and UFO work at the base may well have carried out though in a region unknown to engineers such as Barnes.
"Those guys who came forward may very well be telling the truth, with the caveat that they wouldn't know if there was something going on," said Stanton T. Friedman, a nuclear physicist, lecturer and top UFO researcher.
Friedman added that evidence coming out of places such as Area 51 proved how much was going on in the country without peoples' knowledge.
"National security has a real place in all of this stuff. There is no way to tell your friends without telling your enemies," he said. "A lot of Americans woke up to the fact that there's a lot going on that they don't get told about."
BTW, Do you type with your toes?
INDEED.
Who are you; Dick Morris?
You’re the
—initially assaultive one . . .
—the relentlessly assaultive one . . .
—the persistently cheeky, haughty one . . .
yet I’M worthy the “What’s with you?” question?
LOL! ROTFLOL!
What a trip. Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo logical, scientific and objective!
LOL. ROTFLOL TO THE MAX.
You may make my ignore list, yet.

As a lurker on the UFO ping list, I'd have to say I expected better grammar. Most of those guys there are somewhat competent when it comes to syntax.
I usually run with
communicative competence
vs
prissy grammarian competence.
Most common folks do.
To the pure all things are pure.
Is that an evidentiary statement or a platitude. Keep in mind we're talking about UFOs on this thread.
For what its worth, for someone who claims to have so much evidence and research, you seem to have very little to communicate when the chips are down.
But the people who see PEOPLE come out of UFO’s, those are people on to the truth and in no way charlatans or crazies?
Is that it?
WOW!
What a wonderful demonstration of why and how difficult it must be for naysayers to discern truth and reality in the UFO field. Thanks. That was quite generous of you.
Wherever did you stumble upon the delusion that I was trying to communicate very significantly to naysayers?
That's quite a delusion. It's almost as bad as the TYPE II ERROR that there's NOTHING THERE of any unusual nature in the UFO field. Very impressive.
I'm curious . . . do you buy your delusions by the case at Sam's or on a whim at 7/11?
Aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh
the old
OBTUSE CLUELESSNESS approach to dialogue. Sooooooooooo attractive.
Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo IMPRESSIVE.
And when such critters appear together? What then, oh consort of the Red Queen in Alice’s rabbit hole?
I realize it’s a dreadfully challenging thing to ask meaningful questions instead of throw absurd ignorant rocks on these threads. But please do try and keep up better. I’d think even naysayers would have SOME standard of sensibility.
Congrats on being
Pro Israel; Pro 2nd Amendment; Anti Liberal etc. I was beginning to be quite concerned for you before reading that
. . . though the “former Christian” is still extremely concerning.
Love your Samuel Adams quote.
Has a single situation ever been proven beyond a reasonable doubt? No. Good luck, keep on trying, though.
Gotta give credit to someone who can stick with a false premise through so much. The tenacity is astounding. Very impressive.
Nah, I’m just someone who doesn’t believe in wholly unfounded garbage that has been debunked with a 100% perfect record.
If the space-alien believers could come up with even ONE confirmation, it would be a miracle. To date, there has not beeen even that one confirmation. Not one.
I worked in the semiconductor field for 20 years. I knew all of the people involved. There is no way some alien device just dropped into their laps and they reversed engineered it. You cannot believe how smart most of these guys are. Schottky, Grove and Moore are brilliant guys. Grove is a friend of mine I have discussed this with him on many occasions. It was inspiration and lots of just plain hard work.
Thanks, Travis.
I don’t have much choice, if I want to deal in the truth and accept the truth. I’ve studied too much and blessed with too much info from many high quality sources and international experts in the field.
IN ADDITION TO my relative that worked around the stuff.
It would be like . . . hmmmm . . . like . . .
trying to convince myself that Navajos were not Native Americans with a homeland in NM and AZ.
The naysaying stuff REALLY IS UTTERLY IDIOTIC and clueless to me. Some naysayERs may be earnest reasonable blokes under all the nonsense . . . but their
REAL AND DEADLY ADDICTION TO A VERY SERIOUS AND TRUE TYPE II ERROR RISK is utterly incredible
AND MOST . . . WHAT . . . 99% ARE EVEN CLUELESS ABOUT
THAT!
And most naysayers are alarmingly rabidly willfully blind—fiercely assaultive, hostile etc. and likely extremely disagreeable folks to live with or work around.
THAT, for this psychologist is a WHOLE OTHER curiosity. WHAT ON EARTH triggers such assaultive hostility from them? PARTICULARLY OVER SOMETHING THEY DO NOT THINK IS TRUE!
They are getting soooooooo fiercely hostile and assaultive over what they see as a FALSEHOOD??? Goodness, what do they do about something they think IS TRUE AND IMPORTANT—GO FREAKING OUT FULL BLOWN PSYCHOTIC IN A FLASH???? AMAZING.
Their brittle haughty, arrogant, prickly hostility is indicative of someone who’s not all that happy with themselves nor with life and relationships in general. What fun is there in living with THAT kind of attitude or perspective???? I’d wager that if any of them have teenagers, they are in a very tortured and conflicted relationship with those teens unless the teen is super laid back and uncaring about such idiotic harsh parenting—tending toward being passive and compliant to the max with the crazy parent.
The UFO stuff will out itself in due course. I hope it takes longer to do so than it appears set to do. But I have no doubt about that. 0.000000000000000% doubt. It’s only a matter of time just as it’s only a matter of time until the overt global government takes over tyrannical control of the planet very publicly.
Those things are absolute certainties. No doubt whatsoever.
However, the relationship problems of most of the naysayers will not change that easily . . . not go away that easily. They appear to be a very abrasive, derisive, unpleasant and disagreeable sort of person to be around. Their families have to experience them even MORE that way. Such features of personalities aren’t just manifested in one discrete area of a life—they pervade the life and virtually all that person’s relationships. THAT is very sad, to me.
Anyway—they are great foils for keeping the threads bumped up and energized. I thank them for that.
And, they proved some perverse fun in whacking back at their idiotic assertions and absurd meanness.
Actually a lot of UFO situations have been proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
The naysayers and debunkers demonstrate a wholesale
LACK
of reason at all in such cases. They tend to be utterly clueless screaming idiots with not a fair-minded objective cell in their brains on such cases. It’s really quite amazing to watch as a psychologist.
The Cash Lundrum affair is one. The Roswell case is one. The missile warhead getting zapped by a UFO on film is another. The Malstrom AFB case is another. The Keksburg sp? case is another. The Rendlesham Forest case is another.
All those cases are well proven in quadruplicate many times over beyond a reasonable doubt. Any noise to the contrary is not even sane, actually.
Any noise to the contrary is some sort of delusional wish fulfillment—skepticism built on more fog and silliness than any UFO believer was ever even accused of. The hypocrisies on the debunker side of things is absolutely outrageous.
And, they proved some perverse fun in whacking back at their idiotic assertions and absurd meanness.
=
provided some perverse fun
