Census workers heading into neighborhoods

U.S. Census activities have begun nationwide, with workers updating address lists and maps. The information will be used to distribute census forms, according to the United States Department of Commerce Economics and Statistics Administration’s regional census center in Dallas.

Officials are asking the public’s cooperation in allowing Census Bureau employees access into buildings and communities to perform their official duties.

Because the 2010 Census is a complex operation that involves several phases, more than one census worker may request access during the next several months.

The workers have identification badges that should be displayed while they are on duty. Also, they will provide their local census office phone number for verification of employment when requested to do so.

All census takers are federal employees who are required by Title 13 of the United States Code and have taken an oath to protect the confidentiality of the information they collect.

Only authorized, sworn Census Bureau employees have access to the reported information. The data is used for statistical purposes only, meaning no person nor household can be identified from the published census results.

The U.S. Census Bureau is required to take an official count of people residing in the United States every 10 years. This count determines the number of seats in the U.S. House of Representatives per state and the distribution of state and federal funds for highways and schools.

Census data shows the demographic makeup of individual communities, states and the nation. It dictates where to build schools, form election districts and locate energy sources, such as gas and electricity.

"BTW: Isn’t it better to get counted so that maybe your state (unless you live in a liberal area) gets to keep that one Republican Rep?"

Please explain. I'm 100% ignorant on this.
How does the number of counted people cause a Rep rep to be kept or removed?

Thanks

Exactly. Except one, I’m thinking that those refusing to answer any other question should answer “native American” for race, provided of course you were born here.

I'll go with 'human'. Tough tittie if these bleeps have a problem with that.

Might even ask them, ''What's the problem? Aren't YOU a member of that race?''

Wait until they want to install a bum in your place. Oh yeah, you’ve got room.

We got ours and it’s in the outgoing mail today. It is nowhere near as invasive as the 2000 census (on which we only recorded number of residents). It merely asked for number of residents, and the name/age/sex/race of said residents. Except for race, these are the same things recorded about my immigrant ancestors. So we filled it out for posterity. :)
