I came across a beautiful version of Unchained Melody earlier today, and it started me down memory lane.
Figures an old sailor would pick a song about a Ferry boat! :)
Seriously :| , there was so much good music back then.
Never heard of him, but thanx for the tip ... never heard the song neither ... but it btought a tear.

No, I just like the song. As an old sailor, I’ll pick Bobby Bare’s The Mermaid Song anyday. :-)

Saw them at Coney Island about 4 years ago. Funny, but I don't remember much about them that evening. Maybe it was because there were two other guys on that night: Frankie Valli and Dion! In-freakin-credible!! It was a scene out of the past. Coney Island on a warm summer evening, lots of (more or less) 'normal' people walking around and in the crowd (normal for Brooklyn, that is).
I prefer Del Shannon’s version of “I Go to Pieces,” Judging from the sound, it seems to have been recorded in 1963—the arrangement, featuring a full orchestra and kettle drums reminds one of Baby Washington’s “Leave Me Alone” or Gene Pitney’s “Half Heaven, Half Heartache,” which were bestsellers that year. Although Peter & Gordon’s version was a hit in 1965, Del Shannon’s wasn’t released until the 1980’s, when it came out on an LP.
Bobby Bare had some really nice songs: Detroit City, Four Strong Winds, 500 Miles(from home). I saw him perform in the 80s, I think it was, at Belmont Racetrack. They used to have concerts after the races on the weekends. Couldn’t even afford to buy a beer after I lost my arse on the races.
They are being inducted into the Rock and Roll HOF this year. Little Anthony and the Imperials doing “Hurt so Bad”.

Nice! But I like the way they moved in the one I linked to. Especially on the 2nd number (Shout). It’s a 6-min video.

Here’s a good one - the Crew Cuts performing Sh-boom Sh-boom
circa 1954.

Hell, I remember that!
This one’s a little off-genre, but check out the greatest lineup of blues legends on the same stage at once.

Lou Christie’s “Lightning Striking Again” gthe ultimate 50’s-60’s relationship song. You (girl) be good and chaste until I get done running around chasing everything in a skirt then we’ll get married and live happily ever after. It was a simpler time. This song was also the theme song of a local high school basketball team that went undefeated that year. At the end of every game the cheering section would all stand up and start singing this song.

I have a 78 rpm copy of this disc.
