Big time compueter problem. First my bona fides: My computer is turned on. I am logged in. My beeper is set to stune. I took a shower. I'm not wearing an aluminum hat. I'm trying to fix some PC problems by doing a MS System Restore but can reagardless of which day I choose going back three months. I did a defrag last night and it still won't Restore. Any suggestions?
We go pack sand then ....... sorry to bother ya !
Actually sent JRF a freepmail and reminded him you were not a noob....ya signed up in 2000.
Your welcome .......Stay safe !!
You running Norton IS 200x?
Nothing but love and kisses! If I'm not in trouble, I'm asleep.

I didn't think it was an FR issue UNLESS they probably do check for browser in order to know how to send you the data; most sites do anyway. Because it worked in FF and IE7, I thought it was Netscape.
No matter, it's better now. Could be a coincidence.
It's amazing all the cookies you collect in a short while. I hope it throws them off when you wipe them out even if you go back to some regular sites and pick them right back up again. But they're not the space hogs some of the other junk is that I can't get rid of through maintenance.
I could defrag anyway just to get everything all neat in line but figure why bother. I don't bother with disk cleanup any more since using CCleaner. Should I?
BTW, I saved the instructions for sys restore. Thanks to that poster. That could be why it didn't work before; I didn't go into safe mode and just did it the easy way. Things transparent to me could be running in the bg, like Norton for sure and a few other things.
Anybody know how I get rid of the Win messenger icon in systray near the clock? I tried to get rid of it going into dos and cleaning up my startup menu, but it keeps coming back, so I just put up with it.
I've got a tech coming from BB Saturday because I could not get my router installed and network my old machine with the new imac. Hurts my pride, but Linksys could not figure out what was wrong. Maybe he (assuming gender there) will notice something else, and I sure hope he knows what he is doing. I plan to watch and take notes.
This ain’t a JRios from lompok is it? The year is all wrong but the sense of humor smells about right
Fast? Tom’s had a Core i7 940 system running at stock speeds that obtained a 3DMark Vantage benchmark CPU score of 17,966!
Naw, it’s not fast. LOL
BTW FF does have a spell checker which is kind of handy if I post anywhere. I post here in Netscape because that's my mail program, and I like it that way and am able to access usenet the easiest with Nscape. The latest version of FF may have some bugs. One addon I can't remember won't work any more. If I think of it, I'll post.
When I get the imac going, they have an email program, don't know what I'll do about that yet. I kind of like it the way it's set up now but don't want to install Nscape on the imac even though I've got Fusion 2 for my win apps.
Wrong side of CA

This is what I use to kill the messenger !......:o)
Works very well !
Also surf this grc site as it is IMO very very good . I have used it for years !

Worked like a charm!
Now, anyone who wants to walk me through how to permanently get rid of Norton would be a God send!
A project for another day. ;-)
in ccleaner there is a uninstall programs widget ......but try in your control panel first !
Nite !!
Thanks, I briefly looked at that. Will tackle it another day.
Gnite. Thanks again.
I did find some potential fixes for my linksys problem but decided it was pretty advanced and might not be the right fix plus I wasn't sure I could back out of it. So it's going to cost me, not happy about that.
Norton has the instructions on their symantec website somewhere. Even techs don’t like to do uninstalls of it.
Yeah... I've heard some of the horror stories of problems people have had. I'm hesitant to try it for fear I mess the whole thing up. I'll get to it one of these days.
It’s not a software problem. Your machine is so old it’s actually exuding what we call ‘anti-nology’ and is slowly sucking you into the past.
If its a REALLY old computer Ubuntu won’t work. You need at least 256M . For the really old clunkers I suggest Puppy Linux. (Which is what I’m using right now)
Windows 7 is def. An improvement over vista
