Sorry but the North East Georgia Bobby Jones Invitational is not a major in my book. Majors have always been championships of something. As in golf the US Open, British Open, British Amateur, US Amateur, PGA championship, and similarly in tennis. How does the NEGBJI fit into that?

The NEGBJI belongs with other other tourney started by or in honor of PGA stars like Palmer’s invitation, Jack’s Memorial, the Nelson/Hogan tourney etc. None of them are majors nor is the NEGBJI.

The TPC on the other hand is a championship of something. It is the championship of the touring players. Naturally it has a better field than the NEGBJI. It doesn’t have the racist past of the NEGBJI. It does not have a bunch of old cranks pretending it more of a golf event and treating the public like old cranks always do.

The idea of majors has always been fluid. The NEGBJI never should have been considered a major, but it was becaue golf like tennis wanted four as in a grand slam. But the TCP stepped up and gave us at real 4th major. Maybe some day the PGA will be replaced by a championship of Asia or NZ/Australia or some other place. But for now we have four championship of something to call majors, the Open Championship, the US Open, the PGA and TPC.

Sure, but it's not a major. The Masters is. All you have to do is look at the list of past champions, not to mention how the players feels about it.

Dude.... you are either smoking crack, or simply not a golf fan.

The Master’s has something the TPC is greatly lacking: Tradition.

The TPC is played on a completely forgettable, and butt-ugly track. One tricked up Par 3... and, you think THAT is the most famous hole in golf? Hardly. I’ve played on a dozen courses as pretty as the TPC. Heck, there are probably a dozen just in Florida.

The TPC is a great tourney, due to the deep field. Someday, it may be considered the “Fifth Major”. But, the year the Master’s is no longer considered a Major, is the year they no longer have Majors.

Ask professional golfers: If you could only win ONE tourney, which would it be. I doubt 1% would say “TPC”. I’d wager my most trusted putter a large majority would say, “The Masters”.
