EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ - The Giants today announced they have released veteran wide receiver Plaxico Burress, who played for the team the previous four seasons.
The Giants announced on Friday that they had released veteran WR Plaxico Burress
The status of Burress, 31, has been the subject of much conjecture since last Nov. 29, when he was wounded in an accidental shooting in a Manhattan nightclub. He was inactive for the Giants victory in Washington the following day, then placed on the reserve/non-football injury list for the remainder of the season. The team also fined Burress and suspended him for four games for conduct detrimental to the team.
I am an optimist, and I believe most situations can be worked out, said General Manager Jerry Reese. We hung in there as long as we could in hopes that there could be a resolution to this situation other than the decision we made today to release Plaxico. It wasnt to be, so now we have to move on. Like everybody else here, we want nothing but the best for Plaxico, and we are appreciative of the contributions he made to this franchise.
Burress is perhaps best known for catching the game-winning touchdown pass in the Giants upset victory over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII. He eluded Patriots cornerback Ellis Hobbs with an inside move, then ran to the outside, where he caught Eli Mannings 13-yard throw with 35 seconds remaining in the game. Burress had two receptions in the Super Bowl, catching Mannings first and last passes of the game.

>>>Amazing how shooting yourself can land you in so much trouble<<<
Actually, it was having the audacity to bear arms in NYC that really has him in trouble. Him shooting himself was only how the authorities found out.
If he had intentionally stabbed somebody else, he’d probably be in a lot less trouble, becasue it wouldn’t have involved one of those evil guns.
He is a convicted felon. He should not be carrying a weapon period. He is going away for several months and then he will be back.
Bet he doesn’t do it again.
I hope Plaxico Burress doesn’t get in any trouble over his accident.
I mean, it’s kind of sickening, O.J. clearly commits a double homicide and is a hero to the black community and Plaxico accidentally shoots himself in the leg and he faces jail time.
But I bet you he does something else stupid that gets himself into legal trouble.
I believe he had no criminal record (definitely no felonies) before this incident. He was licensed to carry in Florida, though I believe the license had expired a few months before the incident.
He was an idiot for being reckless with his gun, but that is not why Bloomberg and the NYC Gun Grabbers wanted to lock him up for the 3 1/2 years. It was merely possessing the gun, that outraged them.
He shoots...he scores....and BOOM goes the dynamite!!!
bttt
Jerry Jones please pick up the phone Mr. Burress’s agent is on line one.
i don't think so.
Most definately, Jerry Jones is probrably sitting behind his desk twiddling his fingers with a Montgomery Burnsesque grin saying “Exxxxcccceellllenttt.”
Oh, and Bloomberg sucks ass.
hardeehar
“I have always been as concerned about Plaxico as a man as I have been about him as a player”
Giant’s Coach Tom Coughlin
There’s something that turns my stomach about an employer saying how concerned they are about an employee while they are firing him. It is really offensive.
Plaxico is a complete idiot.
There goes my season.
I am sure Dallas will pick him, they have no problem with criminals.
Hey, how about the NFL ALL-FELON team. We got a great nucleus here:
QB Michael Vick
WR Plaxico Burress
WR Donte Stallworth
CB Pacman Jones
Party at Al Harris’ house!
