The new apocalyptic movie ‘Knowing’ is apparently worth seeing
The Western Experience ^ | March 26, 2009 | Jason

I can’t believe I’m actually getting ready to do a movie promotion/review….

CNN/Entertainment has a story up on Nicholas Cage’s new movie, Knowing. It apparently beat out some stiff competition and surprised many that it is currently the number one film in the country. But, what grabbed my attention about it was Cage’s comments. Normally, I would brush over something like this but this made me do a double take.

“I’m a huge believer of the human spirit,” he told CNN. “I think people are amazing. I think what we have accomplished is incredible. … If you think positive and you apply the guts and ingenuity that mankind has been doing forever, at least in our existence, I believe we get through anything.”

I was a little struck by that comment. It was so boastful, assured, with a deep rooted belief in the human spirit. I don’t want to judge Mr. Cage because I know nothing about him personally or what his views are, but I appreciated such an “unoriginal” yet proven, rooted, and identifiable comment. It beats those boorishly deep and philosophical gibberish rants that most in his industry try to spout out whenever given the chance.

It was pretty good. The ending seemed very Bible influenced with themes of Noahs Ark, Garden of Eden, End Times, Angels etc.

I saw the movie on opening day and can give it (for me) the ultimate compliment.

It is good entertainment.
The world as we know it ends. No biggie.

No preaching.
No PC crap.

No liberal/gay lifestyle rants.

What more can anyone expect these days?

29% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Maybe not worth seeing after all.

I’ve been wondering for some time when we’ll start to see apocalyptic movies that would compare to those of the 1970’s:

- Planet of the Apes
- Soylent Green
- Colossus: The Forbin Project
- Rollover

IMO, “Omega Man” (remade last year as “I am Legend”) presents an unqualified disaster but not an absolutely
complete apocalypse in the same way these others did.

***** SPOILER ALERT *****

I can't believe how many people are slobbering over this movie and talking about how "spiritual" it is. I heard such comments and went to the movie expecting some great message. And what was the message? ALIENS ARE THE SAVIORS OF MANKIND. Are you kidding me? If there are "aliens" out there, they are most certainly tools of the devil and not visitors from some other planet. They may very well want us to BELIEVE that they indeed are the saviors of mankind, but it would only be a ruse to take our eyes off God.

Why the knock on aliens? We have an illegal alien now as our president and he is going to save us all!

Balance it out with “The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy” when you get a chance. It starts with the destruction of Earth but it’s a comedy.

...and he is going to save us all!

Just like the "aliens", it is certainly what he wants you to believe...

What a strange thing to say. Why would you think that aliens couldn't exist without being a demonic manifestation?

Slightly off topic

IMO, “Omega Man” (remade last year as “I am Legend”) presents an unqualified disaster but not an absolutely complete apocalypse in the same way these others did.

SciFi channel re-made the remake, it aired last weekend, it was called "I am Omega" with Mark Dacascos.

Is it asking to much to get an "original" disaster movie?

Did you know that there is an alternative ending for “I am Legend” in which Will Smith’s character does not die? Its out there on the internet.

Why the knock on aliens? We have an illegal alien now as our president and he is going to save us all! How would you know an extraterrestrial was really an extraterrestrial? Also, the religion about aliens being the saviour of mankind is not called Christianity, it's called Scientology.

Yeah. The “happier” version of the movie. It’s available on minin. That should have been the actual ending as well.

"Why would you think that aliens couldn't exist without being a demonic manifestation?"

I was thinking the same thing. In CS Lewis's Space Trilogy he posits the notion of another planet, also created by God, whose beings did not succumb to temptation in the garden...

Really? Good grief.

I hate to say it, I liked the SciFi channel movie better than the Will Smith version.

I still would like something original to come out.

Where are the alien books in the bookstore?

If they're about fictional aliens, they'd be in the science fiction section. If they were about xenobiology and speculations about the possibilities of alien life they'd be in the science section.

What's your point?
