PORT PERRY, ONT. and TORONTO -- An hour and a half after walking Cally at the nearby park Monday evening, Kim Reeves noticed her poodle was shaking. She jumped in the car and drove Cally to the emergency veterinary clinic in Whitby.
"She kept getting worse and worse. It was horrible," Ms. Reeves said. "She was getting non-responsive almost. Her eyes were closed. She was curled up. ... She was just lying there. Her head kept kind of flopping around. She couldn't stand any more."
Six-year-old Cally was one of three dogs poisoned by tainted chocolate cupcakes and brownies at a popular park in Port Perry, about 75 kilometres northeast of Toronto.
She survived the ordeal. As did Hazel the beagle and Abby the black miniature schnauzer.
Durham Region Police are now looking for the culprits who left the tainted baked goods under a tree near the entrance of the park. They were laced with cannabis, antifreeze or a combination of both, said police spokesman Dave Selby.

Couldn’t people just bother to train their dogs to not eat anything that they find laying around? I’ve heard it can be done.
Yup....
Yup. Certainly if they were on a leash, which is where they
should have been.
I almost had to shoot a guy’s Doberman once cause he refused
to leash him, “oh he’s trained.” he kept saying.
I told him, “He moves another paw and he’s dead meat.”
It can be done. Just many of us don’t make enough effort. Hell, most don’t make the effort to make sure they don’t run over furniture.
And this is why, in a fenced in yard, most of the times I walk my guys on a leash.
Evil is walking around in flesh form.
I hope they catch the baseborns and feed them the tainted cupcakes as well.
grrrrrrrr.
Pretty evil.
I’d look at the local peta chapter first.
I’ve never taken dogs to dog parks. It’s a good place for dogs to pick up viruses and parasites.
That too, but since I show my dogs they are already pretty exposed.
