The night before Valerie Bertinelli prepared to step out in public wearing a bikini for the first time in nearly 30 years! she found herself unable to sleep. As her mind raced with insecurity ("I thought, Am I really going to do this? Can I pull this off?" the actress admits), Bertinelli tried to summon up a pep talk, telling herself, "What am I so afraid of? Come on it's just a bathing suit!"
And yet as any woman knows, those innocent-looking strips of Lycra can be a terrifying sight especially for someone just shy of her 49th birthday (April 23), who only two years ago tipped the scales at 172 lbs. more than 40 lbs. over her goal weight for her 5'4" frame. But after whittling herself down to 132 lbs. in about 9 months on Jenny Craig (for whom she serves as a company spokeswoman), Bertinelli, who had last worn a bikini when she was 20, was ready for a new challenge.
"I thought, If I'm so afraid of a bikini, theres something wrong. And so I had to get back into one!," Bertinelli says in the new PEOPLE, available on newsstands Friday.

That’s it. I’m going to the gym. It’s still March. I can do it.
Father time can be very cruel
My first actress crush...
About EVH - It’s amazing what difference a haircut and haircolor can make.
That’s not a recent photo of Eddie.
Am I supposed to know?
Not knowing, am I terminally uncool?
Is this the fault of the NEA? Of George Bush?
How can I get cool?
Yeah he looks better now but the other pic is funnier for the situation.
I will be in my bunk...........
Yeralright ... y’jes unold.
Robert Plant looks like King Theoden.
While I admit that she looks good (amazing what Photoshop and a few million bucks will do for a girl’s figure), with all that’s going on in the world, her hysteria over wearing a bikini seems angst misplaced.
how cute she looks... good for her...
Diamond Dave even sounded great too, just wasn't getting the height on the jumps like he used to.
Here's the pic in question (at 63)...
People: How did you do it, Valerie?
VB: Oh it was easy! I hired an athletic trainer to help me work out 4 hours a day, and a personal chef to cook for me. I was a little sore after the workouts, so I had a massage therapist come for 90 minutes a day. I needed two hours a day with a therapist to help me deal with my obsession with food, and a life coach full time for spiritual enrichment.
I (giggle) also had some nips and tucks here and there.
It only cost $450,000 for everything.
Eddie Van Halen looks like Grendel.
If you have to ask, you'll never know!;-)
You don’t remember this TV show?

Valerie was (and still is) a hottie.
At that time, I was a teenager, and the girl next door looked a lot like Valerie.
Trouble is... she was the little sister of my best friend. And I knew her from years back when she was a grubby little girl - so there was no romance or “feelings” involved.
Her name was Cheryl. I wonder if she still looks like Valerie today???
