Yeah same here. In my opinion they’re the only things Diesel has been really good in.
Those will sell hugely, IMO. Most people simply missed the first two due to the lack of enormous marketing of other popular movies, but most people now know about the first two by having watched them long after they were introduced.
I like them a lot. Pitch Black was very intense and had a great story line. Plus, it introduced me to Claudia Black. :)
I liked Diesel in both.
Chronicles of Riddick was laughably awful. I liked the guy with the soft shelled crab on his head. I couldn’t imagine a trilogy of those. Pitch Black wasn’t awful, but I’m kinda bored with these “badass” protagonists, who are a dime a dozen. I wouldn’t mind seeing one of these types of movies with a hero who isn’t just a thug.
Pitch black was really good. Chronicles was a dissapointment to me.
I feel that each of these movies is really amazing on several levels.
USA did an amazing job with marketing and finance of the first movie (Pitch Black), and since it was one of Diesel’s earlier movies, name recognition was non-existent. This helped to bolster the sales of the movie after Chronicles, as he’d done F&F after Pitch Black.
Compared to Pitch Black, Chronicles pales, but overall, each movie was played out well, and the storyline, while fantastical, is grounded in some semblance of possibility. The burning planet sequence was arguably far-fetched, but the action of the sequence was enough to keep the audience, myself included, riveted.
I’m glad that they’re going back to the old style. If they can manage to salvage the story line, the movie may actually be pretty good.
And as far as Vin goes, I think he’s a solid actor, funny and passably intelligent. He doesn’t come off as a Hollywood vanity-case, and I think that’s his most endearing quality.
Oh, yeah. I was happy to hear that Diesel was a "bigtime" geek on G4 last week (they were talking about his new videogame). It is weird, though, to hear him talk as himself - he sounds REALLY effeminate. You expect him to start talking about getting his nails done and going shopping for a new cell phone... Too much time in Cali, I guess.
Pitch Black was a movie I avoided until I heard about Riddick. I had read that Diesel had bought the rights to PB after he started to get recognition and that he wanted to do video games, cartoons etc. He seems like a smart businessman. He was great in Boiler Room as well. The Riddick film took a few viewings before I understood what a great piece of SciFi it was. It was well acted and my favorite character was that bitchy actress that played the second in command’s wife ala Lady McBeth. The DVD set of Riddick which you can get for under 10 bucks now comes with an animated piece that continues the story after PB ends. Keep it up Diesel.
Friggin awesome!!!
I liked Pitch Black. It was especially good considering the budget. However Riddick was more reminiscent of those old European sci-fi movies where no one can figure out what’s going on. The plot, if you can call it such, meanders back and forth and changes midstream, earlier ideas discarded and new ones inserted without much coherency except maybe the idea that “Hey this is cool”.
I’m surprised that they would make another Riddick. But then I’m surprised that there are reality shoes.
I did too but preferred Pitch Black. That was pretty scary. I recently saw the new Babylon picture which I didn't like very much.
All in all tho, Diesel is perfect in the Riddick series and I hope they continue with it.......
