The U.S. Army is to invest $6 million in riot equipment, a fact that has furthered fears that troops will be used inside the U.S. in order to quell any civil unrest resulting from the ongoing economic crisis.
The U.S. Army Contracting Agency, based at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, has a post on the Federal Business Opportunities website, requesting the equipment and has received several notices of interest from potential vendors.
The request titled 84RIOT EQUIPMENT outlines the need for hard polyethylene Shin and Chest Guards, shock absorbing Forearm Protectors, Interior leg brace supports as well as knee and ankle protectors.
The ACA asks that the equipment be able to safely withstand a substantial blow from non-ballistic weapons or flying debris.
The Solicitation also states:
The associated North American Industrial Classification System (NAICS) code for this procurement is 453998 with a small business size standard of $6M. This requirement is a [ Small Business ] set-aside and only qualified offerors may submit bids.
Interested vendors include Irish Brigade inc., manufacturers of hunting and safety gear with facilities located in the heart of Kansas City , Missouri. Federal and Military resource company MCLEARVISION, LLC is another interested party, as is Kentucky based U. S. CAVALRY STORE, INC.
In our article yesterday we highlighted the fact that Urban warfare training drills are taking place across the country as top analysts as well as officials predict a potential summer of rage across Europe and America as civil unrest from the economic fallout builds.
Are such drills really for the purpose of preparing troops for foreign combat zones? Undoubtedly - but other factors indicate that the drills may very well also be aimed at preparing troops for dealing with mass civil unrest as the economic crisis worsens.
Theres no question that U.S. authorities have been closely observing riots that have toppled governments in Iceland and Latvia and also threatened to do so in several other European countries. The fact that they have contingency plans in place to deal with such scenarios should they unfold in America cannot be disputed.
Indeed, before a media exposé forced them into a denial, Northcom revealed that one of the duties of at least 20,000 active duty troops that are being placed inside the United States would be dealing with civil unrest and crowd control.
The U.S. Army War College in November released a white paper called Known Unknowns: Unconventional Strategic Shocks in Defense Strategy Development. The report warned that the military must be prepared for a violent, strategic dislocation inside the United States, which could be provoked by unforeseen economic collapse, purposeful domestic resistance, pervasive public health emergencies or loss of functioning political and legal order. The widespread civil violence, the document said, would force the defense establishment to reorient priorities in extremis to defend basic domestic order and human security.
So the guards troops just accompanied the police while THEY did this? Seems like a distinction without a real difference to me.
Most of the seized guns were ruined due to poor storage techniques, and few records were kept which would allow them to be tracked and returned to their rightful owners, even if the weapons were still salvageable.
Those guns are lost, as in GONE; and the desired objective of the government was accomplished. So NOW they have to pay out a little money to a bunch of attorneys and a few citizens - their PRIMARY goal, the disarming of the civilian population of New Orleans when those people needed their guns the most, was 100% achieved.
2010??? Were you watching the sham known as the 2008 elections?
"It is enough that the people know there was an election.
The people who cast the votes decide nothing.
The people who count the votes decide everything."
Joseph Stalin
Might want to re-read the article. $6 million is the cut-off for defining a small business for purposes of bidding on the contract.
“Unless they suspend elections.”
I doubt if we’ll ever see another election.
“elections will be a sham from 2010 on.”
I agree and there will never be another Republican president ever.
That's just enough to arm and clothe a baseball team......
Two things: First, go to this thread:http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1994684/posts
Be careful to notice the date of the thread and the responses.
Second, here is what I said today on the thread about the 50,000 march yesterday in NYC:
People do not grasp that this march is the beginning.
Many asked, how does this go from people just complaining at work and on the internet into the rioting, etc. everyone is fearful of.
Well, this is it.
Remember, these people were marching because they fear losing their jobs, not because they have already lost them. What happens when they, and many others around the country actually DO lose their jobs and, city by city, take to the streets.
You thought it was bad when their basketball team won the playoffs. You thought it was bad when the police who beat Rodney King were acquitted and we had Watts Riots. You thought 1968 Chicago was bad.
It will all pale by comparison.
If you have not armed up and stockpiled food, water, fuel, bicycles, etc., I would highly recommend it now. not next week or next month, but now.
It started yesterday.
So what, exactly, is the difference?
According to King George III, our Revolution was a civil disurbance. In fact MOST rebellions start out as civil disturbances.
We wer discussing the use of U.S. Army troops against U.S. citizens on U.S. soil. Since Linoln NEVER recognized the southern states' right to secede, then as far as he was concerned, he was using U.S. Army troops against U.S. citizens (albeit in "rebellion') on U.S. soil.
It is a bit of a surprise at that, but I know for a fact that the Mod Squad has been informed, having hit the abuse button myself.
For whatever reason they have decided to let it stand.
Only if you didn’t buy them shoes...
;^)
$6 million ain’t going to help much.
Don't.
We'll always have elections. Saddam Hussein had elections. He did quite well in them too! 99% of the electorate voted, and he got essentially 100% approval...
I’m not looking for an arguement over established facts...
The national gaurd did not confiscate guns in new orleans...the N.O. police dept DID and got sued over it...
I dunno...maybe you will believe the NRA?

There is a big difference between the active AUSA and the Ohio National Guard. While the uniforms are the same, the command and control is very different (at least in the context of the Viet Nam era.)
I think that there are circumstances where the army would push back a rebellion. Oh yeah, that’s right....its call the Civil War.
I am actually starting to think that the worst kept secret in WDC is that Obama’s not US born. I don’t think its the economy, but it could be.
There’s a lot of pent up secrets leaking out about a lot of things, and eventually, the press isn’t going to be able to hold it back.
This judge that tossed the birth certificate suit, if it goes to sanction, then its going to further invite the question as to whether simply furnishing the document could have avoided all of this.
Eventually, someone is going to ask the simple question.
I keep hearing summer and it’s starting to freak me out a bit. Is there something coming this summer you think?
You have established no facts. You have simply made statements which lay out your “belief” that no one but the police confiscated guns in new Orelans in the after-math of hurrican Katrina.
In fact, the NRA, and other news outlets, AT THE TIME, roported that guns were being confiscated by police, U.S. Marshals and the National Guard. I suggest you look up some of the reporting (and videos) that were circulating WHILE it was going on.
