First lady Michelle Obama waits to be introduced after handing out meals during her visit to Miriam's Kitchen in Washington, Thursday, March 5, 2009. The center provides meals, case management services and housing support to nearly 250 men and women in Washington.

I blame President Obama for that personally. Here is what I think happened.
- Gordon Brown is coming to visit.
- President Obama has on his staff people he specifically hired to deal with protocol.
- His staff somehow didn’t realize there would be an exchange of gifts until the last minute when they started being asked by the press “What will President Obama be giving to the Prime Minister”
- His staff quickly put together a package of 25 DVD’s for the President
- Then they were asked “What will the First Lady be sending to his children?”
- No time to get to anywhere but the White House gift shop for two plastic helicopters
I can’t stand President Obama’s policies, but the First Lady handing over a couple of cheap plastic helicopters to the Prime Ministers wife was the President and his staff’s fault.
Looks like she’ll be a far better as First Lady than her husband will be as President.
The *homeless* are eating Mushroom Risotto and shooting pictures w/ their cell phone cameras? How embarrassing.
If this was Michelle working 'privately' for a charity, no one here would be bothered by it. As the photos show, this was government using a 'private' charity for their own benefit.
no, no, no Michelle. She should have worn some khaki pants and a nice salmon colored v-neck cashmere blend sweater. And some wooden hoop earrings and a wood beaded necklace with some casual flats. That color change is too obvious and makes her hips look wider. That belt is not working...wrong, all wrong. Almost as wrong as her husband being elected president.
HA!
> Looks like shell be a far better as First Lady than her husband will be as President.
That surely can’t be difficult. All the same, I applaud her voluntary effort and hope that she makes a regular habit of it. Volunteerism is important to the economy.
So full marks to Michelle for today’s effort.
As to her clothing — she’s serving in a soup kitchen, for pete’s sake. It is hardly reasonable to expect her to wear anything other than her play clothes. Even with an apron on, chances are good of her clothing getting messy.
Ha ha ha. Photo-op, nothing more. How many minutes did she actually serve food? How long did she spend at the kitchen? How many press people were there to record this for posterity? How many times did Laura Bush do something like this that the media either did not cover or only made as brief a mention as possible of it?
There would be people bothered by it here. There are people bothered by every little thing anyone who disagrees with them do.
For some people there is no seperation between personal and political.
An example? Bush was reading to children when the planes hit the World Trade Center.
He was there with cameras clicking away.
Are you saying those at DU were correct in criticizing him being at a photo op during the attack?
I was just going to say:
“Stop with the freaking belts!!!!! They do not make you look better!”
Come on — be fair. You people think Michelle - the First Lady - should go pass out food in a soup kitchen with no cameras on her? She will have cameras on her daily.
Criticize what’s worth criticizing. She’s doing what first ladies do.
Only if the attacks of September 11th were planned ahead of time.
But the idiots at DU and Kos would attack him for any reason whatsoever. The attacks here against Mrs. Obama are directed at the phoniness of the situation and the fact that the press will report it as straight news and pure altruism on her part. We’re pissed off (just about daily) at the double-standard displayed by the partisan leftist media.
How many nanoseconds did she actually invest in filling plates behind the counter? probably the same amount of time she spent picking out that ugly, classless, clear plastic 6” wide Trailer Park Belt, YUK! estimated elapsed time= 3.213 nanoseconds!
Considering Michelle’s main talent at her Chicago hospital job, she’d be better at encouraging these poor folks to go down the road to another kitchen.
Is she fiddling like ZERO was during the playing of zthe National Anthemhe really doesn’t look like she knows where to place her hands discreetly?

A plastic belt on a sweater?
Normally that doesn't look good but it does on you honey.....

Really it does....
Clearly a photoop for us pions and fools! Do you think she would get near a homeless person who hasn’t been bathed, sanitized, deliced and of course medically for TB, Leprosy, HIV, and a billion others....
Let me ask you a question.
I am going to give you $100,000 for no reason, and I am going to give someone else $1,000,000 for no reason.
If you refuse the $100,000, I will not give the other person the $1,000,000.
Now, do you take the money or refuse it?
While I am opposed to the government getting into the charity game, it amazes me at how many "Conservatives" despise private charity as if it were hurting them.
I simply pointed out that Michelle wasn't actually doing a private charity...it was a photo-op.
For some people there is no seperation between personal and political.
To me there is a major difference. We (individuals) are told to help our fellow man...not the government.
An example? Bush was reading to children when the planes hit the World Trade Center.
Yes, he was reading to the children and cameras were present, Presidents do that type of thing. If the attack hadn't happened, most of the lefties wouldn't have paid any attention to that
Are you saying those at DU were correct in criticizing him being at a photo op during the attack?
Project much??
