I always wanted get one of those for my kids, but we were too busy paying the bills and saving for their college education and our retirement. I don’t begrudge the girls that, but I guess I should have gone ahead and spent the money on my own kids. Now our kids are grown, we paid for their college without the help of government loans (which we didn’t qualify for), and we are making over $250K. Between what Obama’s policies have done to the stock market it looks like our retirement accounts we have been plowing money into are going to be almost worthless. With his tax plans we won’t be able to build them back up.

Always wished I could get one for my boys, they loved them when they went to other’s homes (and far beyond the ages of 7 and 10). But I’d have paid the extra money to have it set up too. My husband always has the best of intentions...but we now have grandchildren and the pieces would still be laying around the yard quietly moldering away if we’d waited for him!

That’s just window dressing, it’s really a gallows for conservative talk show radio hosts.

For the kids?

My arse!

Barry had this installed so he could have a place to sneak a smoke (and other nefarious things he wants to shield from our eyes...)!

That’s positive thinking! I think we need more of it.

One of those “shovel ready” projects, no doubt.

I can understand the girls needing a place to play, but the swingset just looks trashy on the WH lawn right outside the oval office. Imagine what will be next...a bunch of kids having a sleep-over and running all around outside while O is meeting some foreign dignatary in the Oval Office. Does not seem appropriate. Did Jimmy Carter's daughter play on the WH lawn? Seems they could have put something around it so it wouldn't be seen.

Oh, and BTW whatever happened to the dog Obama "promised" he would get his girls when they moved to the WH? It sure made all the news when he was elected. There was such a flurry about which breed, etc. People werre voting and writing to O and advising him about which type would be best. Seems that was another PR move because I never heard if Big Daddy O ever got his girls the puppy, and I sure don't recall seeing any pics of them playing with one. Maybe I missed that? Or was it just another Obama broken promise?

Someone said that one of the girls was "allergic" but there are plenty of non-shedding dogs that children with allergies have, like poodles for example. I think that was all just a hoax. Like the President couldn't find a dog that an allergic child could be around...or get the child shots or medications as other people do? And why did they just suddenly discover one girl had allergies? Seems that whole thing was fishy just to make the first family seem "normal."

“Did Jimmy Carter’s daughter play on the WH lawn?”

Nope, but Teddy Roosevelt’s six kids did, with a small menagerie of animals in tow, including a pony that was frequently pastured on the front lawn... a swingset’s nothing compared to that!

And to all the people who say the girls are ‘too old’ for a swingset - nobody’s ever too old! I’m an adult and I’ll still happily swing on a swingset (especially that rope thing hanging off the end, those are SO much fun!) or hide out in the fort when I need a break from things, or even do chin-ups on the monkey bars when I feel like getting a little bit of a workout. Personally, I’m a bit jealous, that’s a sweet swingset =)

He not only builds a swing set that cost as much as a good used car but parties on $100/lb kobi beef every Wednesday with his rock star buddies and snacks on scallops whenever the urge hits him.

Reminds me of the way the Soviet leadership dined on the best in their dachas and snacked on caviar while the proletariat spent hours in line for the chance at some rancid cheese or sausage.

A real man of the people.

There were lots of Presidential kids who played in and around the grounds. I seem to remember pics of Caroline Kennedy walking in in her mom’s high heels and John Jr peeking out from under a desk. Lincoln’s son Tad rode his goats through the East Room. There was a Prom held at the White House. Didn’t Macaroni graze on the lawn?

I didn’t vote for Obama and I still reserve judgement on him. But dang, his kids are going to be dealing with enough stuff as the President’s kids, can’t they have a swingset in their yard????
(And hey, swings are awesome, especially the kind they have at public parks on the heavy chains. You can really get going high when you pump your legs just right, enough to get slack in the chain when you go reallyreally high. I did that just recently. And I’m 42. What’s with this ‘too old’ stuff at 7 and 10?)

I disagree that it looks trashy. It's not a permanent fixture; it's just a swingset for the current occupant's kids. I hope they and their little friends enjoy it very much.

The puppy is due to come in April when it's warmer for potty training.

The swing set was made in Brookings, SD so at least some US jobs were “saved” in the process.

Jeez, that’s nicer than half-brother George’s hut!

My thoughts, too. I was also thinking how our church day care- though a private entitity was required to have about an inch of mulch underneath but this public property swing seems to have nothing under it. The Democrat double standard lives on...

It doesn’t count if dad doesn’t build it and the construction doesn’t involve at least two trips to the hardware store for tools and parts. Awww that's sweet...the daddy's loving touch.
