Ann Coulter has gone too far...
anncoulter.com 2/25/2009 column ^

Posted on 03/02/2009 9:27:04 PM PST by publius_in_abq

Ann Coulter has always been a valiant fighter in the intellectual battle for conservatism. I even have a couple of her books, but she has gone too far this time. She's irritated me for a while now (didn't buy the last 2 books) and it has finally reached a tipping point:

1. It is one thing to criticize the partisanship and naive policy positions of the Jersey Girls, but it is another thing to start saying disparaging things about their husbands possibly leaving those "harpies".

2. It is one thing to criticize John Edwards for hypocrisy and being an intellectual lightweight, but it is another thing to use a sexual slur against him.

The latest slur against Bobbie Jindal is the final straw, and unfortunately it took her slandering a conservative for me to lose my patience with her. If this was an attempt at making fun of absurdity by being abdsurd (i.e. the liberal slurs against Jindal made by Helen Thomas, Malloy, etc.) then she needs to go on record and explain as such. As I read her column, this was just a slur against him for saying a few nice words about the POTUS. It was not a great speech in terms of delivery or clarity, but was her comment about being in "Slumdog Millionaire" really called for? I've had enough of this from her...she is constantly belligerent with people for no reason (O'Reilly who is not a great conservative, but why she'd want to alienate a center-right person of such power and influence is beyond me). And I'm not sure what she was referring to in her CPAC speech about Afghanistan being a quagmire. She is on the verge of becoming a liability to us now, and undermining her own intellectual brilliance (e.g. the illegitimacy portion of her recent book) with needless bombast. Maybe I'm just over-reacting because I am a Jindal fan...what does everyone else think? I'm frustrated...

Oh and I remember Barbara Olson I taped something and caught a small bit of one of her final appearances on Fox I forgot what she was taking about. Iy was surreal watching it after her murder. I liked her.

Go on not agreeing. Don't feed the Trolls.

They make very poor pets, and besides most of them would bugger their own parrot.

We’ve got our hands full with BO.

No we don't. We've got our hands full with paper-thin-skins who write whole columns attacking conservative stars like Ann for making one little friendly jab in a long column at a fellow conservative, and ranting on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on about imaginary "ethnic slurs" and "really going over the top this time" and ad nauseum.

You want to know what's wrong with the GOP right now, then quit looking at Ann's photos. Go look in a mirror instead.

These simple rules have been pounded into what's left of Americans' brains now for decades,

Has it been that long? ;^) My, how time passes.

The left has been with us a long time (unions, teachers, prison guards, etc) and yet, we've managed to survive. This administration appears to want to take the cancer to a new level- metastisizing in the brain where survival is much less likely.

After 'Whatever Made America Great' is dead, we'll have nothing but it's carcass to feed on. Not sure about you, but I'm about to get my Vulture on.

Ignorance kills the beast. Today, it's freedom and liberty- tomorrow it may be fascism. Either way, the ignant will chuck a spear and slay that which stands between them and survival. With no thought of revival. Fascism will be defeated as was liberty simply because it stood between the masses and food.

It is only with envy that I view those who will experience society at it's highest level of personal liberty. The cyclical nature of freedom/tyranny will endure over time. People will have to fight to survive and live among it's many transitions.

Still, I am amazed that with a blueprint such as the founders handed down to us that we could no less remain a divided 'house'. And, the divisions appear greater today than at any other time in history. The Beat Goes On.

Without the constitution, these swings would be much bloodier. Rush Linbaugh would be hanging from a tree. So, I suppose the efforts to calm the 'sea of change' by our founders has had some effect, but by themselves are no match for human history. We must still endure the slings and arrows. Sling. Arrow. Sling. Arrow.

i bet that L’Hopital line went right over your head... I want Ann to focus on the real threat, rather than making silly slurs against one of our own.

Sorry, but I just read your attempt at humor for the first time this moment.

And why don't you actually read a post before responding to it? I know it's more fun doing it the other way around, but it's far less productive. I asked you a question: Where's the "slur"? You ignored it.

Like the little old lady in the Wendy's commercials: Where's the beef?

Like her, all that I'm finding in your repetitive posts is a bunch of chicken "parts is parts" and no beef. No meat.

You find a "slur" where others find nothing. Once again, where is the slur?

you didn’t answer my question...

Um, no, I think you are confused. Unless your screen name is "marron," my post in #130, which was in response to #88 (hint: look for the tiny item at the bottom of the post that says "To #88" or the header at the top that says "To: marron"), then my response was NOT to you. Furthermore, I was not answering a question of Freeper marron, but rather making a comment about his/her post.

But if you do actually have a question for me, I promise to try to answer it if you do actually state a question.

Barbara Olson penned one of the most damning books ever written about Hillary (in the tradition of Ann Coulter)............If Olson were alive today, I believe she would have nice things to say about Ann........

The best way I can describe my feelings for Ann is thus......whenever Ann is on TV, my wife calls out my name and says, "your girlfriend is on".............

For those of you shied by Ann..........go bite a rope........

What do I think?

I think that the GOP is still in shambles and needing leadership and direction.

The battle for the party between conservative and socialist Republicans is ongoing and Democrats are taking advantage of it.

The Democrats will always accuse Republicans of atrocities but they’d much rather see RINOs at the helm as they help the Democrats advance their agenda.

Honestly, all of this hypersensitivity over what someone says from day to day has become boorish.

Free speech? Sure, as long as you don’t hurt someone’s feelings. And you can bet your bottom dollar that Democrats have an army of aggrieved in waiting to keep Republicans on defense.

I’m still expecting outrage from “little people” over Steele’s comment about wanting the vote one-armed midgets whereby he’ll fall over himself to apologize for being insensitive.

The others have not convinced me you're a troll.

To claim that Coulter's light-hearted one-liner about Jindal (in a long column that nowhere else mentions him) amounts to major damage to the GOP because she is not only "slurring" him, but is also "focusing" the energy of her attacks on Bobby instead of on B.O. does not smack of Trollism to me. It merely smacks of taking an awfully tiny thing, and stretching it so incredibly far that instead of making Coulter look bad, it just makes you look ridiculous and incapable of carrying on a serious discussion.

And I'm still trying to get a feel for why you think Coulter has "slurred". It would help if you answered these questions:

-When Trent Lott praised Strom Thurmond at his 100th birthday bash and said he should have won his bid for president, was that racist?

-Did you think that GHWB's "Willie Horton" ad was racist in 1988, by showing the photo of a black man who had raped and killed after being set free in an early release program?

-When Al Gore had earlier used Willie against Dukakis during the '88 Dem primary (thus alerting the GOP to this useful campaign issue), was that racist?

-Did Jesse Helms' TV ad showing the hands of a purported voter who lost a job due to affirmative action smacking a stamp on a letter to a politician, qualify as "racist" because the hands appeared to belong to a white person?

-Do you keep smelling salts on your person because your friends are constantly having to revive you each time your delicate constitution is thrown into a tailspin after hearing "slurs"?

OK, ok, ok, so that last question was facetious, but the others weren't.

BTW, was this the question for me that you later claimed I ignored? --- "who is a bigger threat to us...Jindal or BO? I want Ann to focus on the real threat, rather than making silly slurs against one of our own"

It looked like an obvious rhetorical question to me, so I only responded to the second part of that line. I thought it was obvious that rhetorical questions aren't meant to be answered. (BTW, perhaps you thought my question re "where's the slur?" was rhetorical, but it's not. I still do not see the !@#$% slur!)

But when it comes to you ........ well, things that I would consider "obvious" with other Freepers apparently don't apply to you.

Coulter was "in the news" before 2001, but she didn't become a household name with all the "new york times #1 bestseller" stuff attached to her name until 2002. Basically there was a void left after Barbara Olsen died and Coulter filled it, except she lacks the talent, class, and charm Barbara had to disarm liberals.

The pledge to campaign for the RATs in 2008 was indefensible (of course Ann didn't follow thur on it, proving she just said it to get media attention). And yes, McCain is a backstabbing douchebag, but that doesn't excuse her making up blatant lies by saying Hillary is "more conservative" than McCain (anyone with an IQ over 3 knows that's simply not true), or exaggerating his RINO street creed by claiming he has the worst record of any Republican Senator in a Bush state ("red state" in her rhetoric). If we believe Ann was honestly telling the truth there, then she must have had a memory lapse and "forgotten" that Voinovich, Warner, Lugar, etc. were all from states that went to Bush and they all have records to the left of McCain. And by 2008, Chuck Hagel was certainly working to get there.

Ann just flat out lies to get attention, plain and simple. Those weren't "mistakes" on her part.

Some other quotes of hers that made me cringe are the "we should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity" about the WOT (sounds like a line Oliver Stone would write in his "W" script to describe Bush's "evil" motives, doesn't it?) and the whole thing about how "Jews" are imperfect people and "need to be perfected" by converting them to Christianity.

Seriously, this woman sounds like a laughable liberal caricature of what conservatives believe in. If she's trying to give them ammo to portray us all as nasty, hate-filled, bible-thumping bigots out to destroy anyone who's not a WASP, she's doing a great job.

Ironically, Coulter's only political work in her resume was being a staffer to Senator Spencer Abraham. From her own website: "Coulter worked for the Senate Judiciary Committee, where she handled crime and immigration issues for Senator Spencer Abraham of Michigan"

Anyone remember how many freepres went nuclear when Fred Thompson hired Spencer Abraham as an adviser and got Fred to dump him immediately BECAUSE of Abraham's record on immigration? I'm sure the irony is lost on Ann Coulter cultists. As is the fact so many freepers who say "never trust ANY Republican from New England"., then go on an Ann Coulter thread to look at her pics and fantasize about her in fishnets and brandishing a whip. She's a lifelong Conn. resident, guess she's an exception to their rules.

Bottom line is that Coulter does more harm than good for the conservative movement, and we should avoid her spewing her bile whenever we have a chance at victory. In fact, I can't think of a single time she's ever used her national spotlight in a way that helped advance conservatism in America. I stopped reading her stuff about 3 years ago, but I still hear about her rants from FR posts from time to time. If those on the left had a clue, they'd shun Michael Moore at the DNC. If those on the right had a clue, they'd "forget" to mail Ann's invite to CPAC from now on.

Not that I dislike Jindal or anything, but to even suggest that Freepers throw Ann under the bus over Jindal is the mots ridiculous idea I ever heard.

Groan!
Another anti-Ann rant that simply doesn't make any sense.
Perhaps if you will show me even one occasion, that this so-called “charm” you are talking about, has actually disarmed loony left crazies like Nancy Pelosi, Barny Frank or any of the hard line leftist leaders of the Democratic Party, then we can even begin to talk.
If I remember correctly, Barbara Olsen was as hard core aginst Hilary Clinton as anyone was. There was no “charm” about it. Vermin are vermin.

As for talent, Ann has talent by the bucket load, and has one of the sharpest minds in the business, and has more wit in her finger nails, than you or any of her distractors have in their whole bodies.

>> Another anti-Ann rant that simply doesn't make any sense. <<

What didn't make sense to you? Feel free to refute any statement I made about Ann's background and record as a conservative pundit.

>> Perhaps if you will show me even one occasion, that this so-called “charm” you are talking about, has actually disarmed loony left crazies like Nancy Pelosi, Barny Frank or any of the hard line leftist leaders of the Democratic Party, then we can even begin to talk. <<

I'd be glad to, except there aren't any pre-2001 media apperances with Barbara Olsen floating around the web on sites like Youtube. Barbara was a master at the game and could utterly tear a liberal to shreds with calm, methodical, airtight case she laid out that they couldn't refute. She'd be totally at ease and devastate them with an attack while remaining cool and smiling the whole time. Completely different from Ann going out there and just spewing ad hominid attacks going after liberals for ad hominid attacks. Anyone can do that, just throw out "zingers" like "I would vote Democrat, but then I'd have to love cocaine and abortion". We do it all the time on FR for free. Rush Limbaugh, Barbara Olsen, and Michelle Malkin know how to totally take apart liberals through cool wit and without spewing over-the-top bile, and that takes REAL talent. That's why there's NO "Rush Limbaugh of the left", but there's PLENTY of Coulter-types on the left who are just nasty attack dogs.

That kind of sophomoric attacks can be temporarily entertaining (like watching Michael Moore doggedly go after Roger Smith in Roger & Me), but once you realize half their 'facts' are made up as they go along and their cute little 'zingers' against their enemies are basically schoolyard disses, it gets old very fast.

Here's the difference in how they respond to a liberal:

LEFT-WING LADY: Winston, if you were my wife, I would poison you!
WINSTON CHURCHILL: Madame, if you were my wife, I would drink it.

LEFT-WING MAN: Ann, if you were my husband, I would poison you!
ANN COULTER: You'd LIKE that, wouldn't you, since you're pro-death socialist twit! Before you'd poison me, you'd poison all the unborn and Terri Schivo too. And every Christian who goes to church! Well go ahead and try it and I'll shove that poison down your lying throat!!!

>> If I remember correctly, Barbara Olsen was as hard core aginst Hilary Clinton as anyone was. <<

Yes she was, but her style was far superior. Barbara Olsen oozed charm, she'd never resort to swears to get her point across and saying everyone should convert to Christianity or die. Barbara had class, Ann is ass (and an attention whore to boot, but saying so would be an understatement). See, I just wrote a statement about Ann with the same type of "talent" she uses to get her point across.

>> As for talent, Ann has talent by the bucket load, and has one of the sharpest minds in the business, and has more wit in her finger nails, than you or any of her distractors have in their whole bodies. <<

I'd love to see her prove it. I would be happy to debate that woman anytime, anywhere, and I bet I could take her to the woodshed for some of the crap she spews. Hell, even Huckabee throughly took her apart when she appeared on his show. I proved some of her "sharp" facts were total B.S. in this thread, and you have yet to refute it. Ann wouldn't get her incorrect "facts" past me.
