I am not trying to be an alarmist, but I am worried about a lot of things. I just have to imagine what the chain reaction of the current downhill slide of the worlds economies can bring. Heres what I imagine can happen in years to come:
Pensions will go bankrupt or be a shadow of what they were before, causing millions of retirees to be broke and maybe even hungry, with no recourse. Stocks and gold will probably cross at about 3,000. Robberies of banks and citizens will increase many fold, and make the streets of big cities dangerous. The danger will cause movie theatres, night clubs and restaurants to do poor business because of citizen fears of venturing out at night. Cars not in garages or in some way protected, will be subject to theft, break ins or stolen tires and parts, especially in big cities.
------------
The big cities, with their large numbers of out of work minorities, will become extremely dangerous places to live, and there will be an exodus to safer, small towns, by those who are able, even if it means selling a big city home at a sacrifice price, just to be safe. The infrastructure and utility providers in big cities may become insolvent or fraught with vandalism. Out of work minorities wont be able to pay utility bills. Without electricity, gas, or water, even for a short time, life can be extremely difficult, and especially in a high-rise building or multi-storey apartment.
In any demise of society the evil of man surfaces, and all bets are off...we just need to always be braced for the worst and whatever happens will be a relief.
Ever live by a trailer park in Whiteville?
In any demise of society the evil of man surfaces...
That would include laziness, no doubt. I don’t see a lot of evil guys expending the time and energy to hike through the woods.
Ever live by a trailer park in Whiteville?
Like the Jerry Springer show?
Yessir!
...Maybe us city dwellers should be afraid of trailer people moving in...
If you keep the meth pipe warm you will be just fine.
Unlikely. Empty houses + lots of homeless people = government housing.
Actually, there was a similar situation after WWII, in which a lot of temporary housing areas went up all over the place. Often they were Quonset huts, which finally went the way after the Levittown development created the new suburban commercial housing project. By then, many veterans and their families could afford veterans mortgages.
What it will become is the government leasing out empty homes with minimal terms, that will have long term ARMs for when the economy improves.
Since December, we have been buying emergency food, a little every month. Unfortunately, you can never have enough for a depression so it would only be a temporary reserve. I’ve recently placed an order with Honeyville Grains, their dehydrated foods are rated very well, i.e. dehydranted potato flakes, hash browns, milk replacer, veges, etc. I buy my meats from MRE depot.com and will buy some more from Mountain House hopefully this month. I also found a great site that sells cannced garden seeds for 5 year storage, with only a $5.00 shipping. They are called
http://www.efoodsdirect.com/product-displa...1&id=cseeds, every where else, the shipping was $10.00 and over.
My biggest fear is protection. My husband won’t allow any guns, so how do I protect my stash.
Scratching head.
Sorry, I know nothing of wheatberries.
No idea what that means, but it sounds bad.
Are you a city, suburbia or rural dweller?
you are right on.
Kinda where SanFran is headed.
I think you are only scratching the surface.
I agree. Someday, people might look back at the scenarios and times described above and say... “Ahhh... the good ole days!!”
One of the first plans of any Martial Law type or civil unrest type scenario is ALWAYS shutting down transportation into and out of urban and industrial areas.
Control the roads and you somewhat control the people.
Sorry, city folk. Yur stuck.
But you can be proactive about it.
Google “pigeon recipes”.
The article you refered to was writen by FerFAL and he has a great survival blog on what it’s like living in Argentina after the economic crash there. You can read it at:
WWII brought jobs, and those temporary homes were a product of that as jobs were springing up everywhere. What happens if there are no jobs...there won’t be a need for places to live, but food will be a necessity during famines and no income.
Search web using "long term storage mylar dry ice food grade buckets" for more how to information.
