Unprecedented attacks of wolves on deer herds have been reported in the Izhemsky region of the Komi republic; sometimes, the dreaded beasts even venture into villages.

Director of the "Izhemsky Deer Farm" Ivan Kanev says that every day, 23 deer farming brigades try to defend their livestock against wolf packs, but in vain. To date, the damage caused by wolves to the deer farm is more than one thousand animals.

Full-grown wolves are not even afraid of venturing into villages. For instance, wolves have ripped apart 15 watch dogs to pieces in one settlement since beginning of the winter.

Deer farmers say that the only way to get rid of the wolves is to organize regular helicopter attacks...

These folk should get Maremma or Mastif Guardian Dogs. They are very effective against wolves. The Maremmas are used in Italy and The Mastifs in Spain.Steel spiked collars are usually placed on the Maremmas, to protect their throats against a wolf bite.

Thank you. this Mareema is an interesting breed. I am going to find one of them for my Mom. She has border collies and aussie shepards that she works. and where she lives is heavily dago. ☺ Those dawgs would fit right in

Russian wolves may have different behavior patterns than north american wolves.

Not saying they do, just tossing out a possibility.

Wolves in Russia are usually hunted only with massive manpower, or from an aircraft. The traditions of wolf hunts go back for a couple of centuries, once first muzzleloaders became widely available (from Peter the Great's factories, for example, around 1700.)

A lone hunter typically stands no chance against a pack of wolves, and wolves love to attack in numbers. Elevated stands help somewhat, but wolves are not stupid. Because of that driving is the usual method, first circling the area with flags. Tens of people (and dogs) must be involved, if not a hundred, with at least 10-20 hunters posted across the exit zone. It's hard to organize such a hunt when people are busy at work all day long; but in 1800s peasants had nothing to do in winter, and that's when hunts like that were popular.

Had one. They’re amazing if you can... overlook their murderous habits.

Anti-freeze works.

Lots of poisons are available for wolves; Google ‘em.
