I downloaded it last night. It is a LOT faster than the old Safari and Firefox. Also very stable.

Actually, Firefox is 50 bazillion quatrillion times faster than Safari.
Who writes this crap?
And is Safari bundled with QuackTime?

Will my mac automatically update this or do I need to click something?

For 95% of individuals reading this article, none of this matters.

Will my mac automatically update this or do I need to click something? No, it won't. This is a beta version and you have to deliberately download it from this location:
Safari 4.0 Beta downloads.

Firefox is fast enough and it doesn’t force me into a single source for hardware.

CNet.
And is Safari bundled with QuackTime?
No, the beta version is not.

It came on my brand new macbook. And it is awesome.
After building computers since 1996, this is my very first apple product.
And I gotta say... it is adorable.

I use Firefox with the NoScript add-on.
Why would I want to load javascript 3.5x faster?

I’m just guessing, but I suspect after you download the 4.0 Beta you’ll get automatic notices for upgrades to the later releases, and when it’s released in final version, it will be in the weekly auto updates.

It came on my brand new macbook. And it is awesome. Congrats on your new Mac. Since Safari came on your new Macbook, it's Safari 3... not 4. This is a Beta test version that is much faster than the Safari 3 you already have. It is not yet released as a final product.
