Good evening everyone, and welcome to the new week's thread.

Our new president will treat us to another exhorting, scolding speech Monday night as the Senate prepares to vote on the Depression and Mind-Boggling Deficit Act of 2009.

Meanwhile Sec Treasury Timothy Geithner, AKA The Treasury's Own Tax Cheat, will unveil yet another bank bailout Tuesday...but that could change...stay tuned.

Bit, I read that article and I’m more hacked off than usual.

I get so sick of hearing that BO was a Professor of Constitutional Law at the University of Chicago. From everything I’ve read and seen, he was no Professor. He was a lecturer and it doesn’t take much sense to realize that there is a difference between a Professor and a lecturer

I guess that most of the media don’t understand the difference, or just plain don’t care. Maybe it’s their way of justifying complete devotion to BO.

No, Nobama was not a Professor, he was a Lecturer - big difference. He was voted 'coolest lecturer' by students, though...;-))

There is something I heard about his U of Chicago days, though, and I was wondering if you've heard it: Apparently, when a Professor or Lecturer speaks, their collegues often attend. One day, a real U of Chicago Professor sat in on one of Nobama's lectures and heard something he disagreed with, so after the lecture he approached Nobama about it.

And as soon as it was clear that the Professor was going to disagree with what Nobama said, Nobama simply turned his back on the guy and ignored him until he went away!

I remember this story because I heard the Professor in a radio interview describing the incident. I wish I could remember the guy's name...

Anyway, it speaks volumes as to Nobama's willingness to defend his ideas in an intellectual, cordial way...;-))

Speaking of Nobama and college......As with his true vault birth cirtificate (if one even exists), he has refused to release any of his college records from any of the colleges he attended, as I understand it. I wonder what he has to hide there? Maybe student foreign aid on his visa from Indonesia? Perhaps?

Oh, I am getting flashbacks to the Carter years! Dealing with the terrorists, apologizing all over the place, high taxes, food prices going up, gas prices going up, etc. I am sure interest rates will go up, too.

The clothes are beginning to look very 70-ish. Doubleknits and polyester, poison green and black and dark purple, wide-legged women's pants.

Any day now I expect to see leisure suits and disco making a comeback.

It's all depressing.

But everything else you mention is frightening. Dear Lord! They are showing wide legged pants in the papers, catalogues, and gas has risen to !99.9 around here.

Toby, I feel for my dad who is old. Would he not get care?

Statement issued by the University of Chicago... how special!/s

Statement Regarding Barack Obama

The Law School has received many media requests about Barack Obama, especially about his status as "Senior Lecturer."

From 1992 until his election to the U.S. Senate in 2004, Barack Obama served as a professor in the Law School. He was a Lecturer from 1992 to 1996. He was a Senior Lecturer from 1996 to 2004, during which time he taught three courses per year. Senior Lecturers are considered to be members of the Law School faculty and are regarded as professors, although not full-time or tenure-track. The title of Senior Lecturer is distinct from the title of Lecturer, which signifies adjunct status. Like Obama, each of the Law School's Senior Lecturers has high-demand careers in politics or public service, which prevent full-time teaching. Several times during his 12 years as a professor in the Law School, Obama was invited to join the faculty in a full-time tenure-track position, but he declined.

It didn’t happen. Then, the medical credit that I had arranged years ago just in case, AND which I checked on either Friday or Saturday and we had plenty available to cover the cost, declined our charge when the doc’s office ran the card. The reason: account closed due to inactivity.

But instead of holding off on those wisdom teeth, the doc proceeded. The doc’s office does not want to wait on the insurance company to process payment. They want their money NOW!

It is morning and I have scrapped my days agenda to try to figure this out. At this instant, I do not know how we’re going to pay for it.
