According to the article the pizzeria owner hit Phinney with a pistol and then jumped over the counter and "started to assault Phinney..." I guess the first hit with the gun was just playful roughhousing and it didn't turn into an assault until later.

Sounds like a lot of the Italian and Sicilians I used to know in Brooklyn and NYC. Not the people you want to mess with.

Great pizza, pasta, calzone and a ton of other food though. Good people to have as friends, very bad people to have as enemies.
