Ridley Scott to Remake The A-Team
BBC ^

Posted on 01/28/2009 2:03:26 PM PST by nickcarraway

Director Ridley Scott has signed up to produce the big screen remake of 1980s TV show The A-Team, according to industry paper Variety.

The film, due out in 2010, will be updated so that the army veterans will have fought in the Middle East and not in Vietnam, Variety adds.

It says Joe Carnahan will direct and hopes to make a "popcorn movie" that "reflects on the real world".

The cult TV show starred George Peppard as Hannibal and Mr T as BA Baracus.

Dirk Benedict, as Face, and Dwight Schultz, as Murdoch, completed the quartet of mercenaries "accused of a crime they didn't commit".

Carnahan said 20th Century Fox had asked him "to make it as emotional, real and accessible as possible without cheesing it up", Variety added.

Actors including Bruce Willis and Ice Cube have been rumoured to be on board but no names have been confirmed.

Jim Carrey as Murdoch?

Probably, but it would be ghastly.

Face would probably be the easiest to cast effectively ... plenty of nice looking, smooth talking men in Hollywood. Is Owen Wilson the blond guy who was in "Shanghai Noon" with Jackie Chan? He'd be okay.

Yes, it’s on DVD. We got a sample episode on a set of “Magnum, P.I.”

yeah, they’re at amazon or spun.com

i don’t know how we got the free feeds from netflix with our account, but that’s good too.

great camp in the series, bad acting, 80’s girls and on a shoestring budget.

So is ‘Face’ going to be re-imagined as a woman?

I think Tom Selleck could play Hannibal. I’ve never cared for Bruce Willis: he speaks with all the inflection of my 14-year-old reading poetry. Whenever I see him in a show, I get him confused with Jerry Doyle (almost a dead ringer), and wonder, “But why is Jerry using that dead voice, like he’s reading a foreign language?”

RDA won’t do it. I saw him on a plane a few years back and he did not even want to talk about it.

I’ve always felt of Ridley Scott’s films have a conservative edge to them.

I think he may be a closet conservative.

I thought he did a nice job with “Blackhawk”, though nothing does justice to the book.

He also did a cool film called “White Squall” which I thought was very good.

Didn’t like the “Aliens”, but that’s what made him famous.

You can watch the A-Team on line for free, with only an occasional 15- or 30-second commercial interruption at http://www.hulu.com/the-a-team

You can see a lot of full old TV episodes at http://www.hulu.com/browse/alphabetical/tv, and also at http://www.veoh.com/browse/tv-shows.html?view=FullEpisodes

This actually could be a fun little movie if they did it right. Bruce Willis as Hannibal and Jim Carrey as Murdoch would be interesting. It also has a lot of potential to be awful...but if they actually work on the script and get Wilis, it has potential.

Miami Vice would could have been a great movie if they had set it in the 1980s and not done the idiotic casting they did.

I’m waiting for a “MacGyver” movie.

Have you seen any of the "MacGruber" shorts on SNL?

You should also check out the Veoh link in my last reply to you — they have a lot of stuff that isn’t on Hulu, such as the whole original Star Trek series.
