This year's Oscar story lines have already been etched in stone Mickey Rourke as the comeback kid, Slumdog Millionaire as the art-house wunderkind, Milk as the timely social commentary (released three weeks after Proposition 8 passed in California).
Yet while the critics have been fussing over wrestlers and Mumbai quiz shows, audiences have been flocking to Gran Torino an Oscar outcast that's been doing laps around the competition at the box office.
At some point this week, the Clint Eastwood drama will pass the $100 million mark, easily surpassing the box-office receipts brought in by not only some of the Oscar front-runners (Slumdog Millionaire now totals $56 million, Milk $21 million) but also Eastwood's last Oscar winner, Million Dollar Baby.
"It's an amazing story that no one's really talking about," says Paul Dergarabedian, box-office analyst with Hollywood.com. "For a movie starring a 78-year-old to have a $29 million opening weekend in wide release, and in the process to beat out the likes of Anne Hathaway in Bride Wars, I don't know if I've seen that before ... It's a testament to how people still feel about Clint Eastwood."

Sugarfoot, right?
I always think CLint was best int he westerns. Dirty Harry just doesn’t do it for me.
Two Mules for Sister Sara is another Clint classic. Din’t think I would like that one as much as I do.
I always thought duct tape would work best for ol' Rog...
LOL!
Never saw that one, but may have to. I only recently became a huge Eastwood fan.
Oh, and Unforgiven."
I have to disagree with you slightly. I'd have to say The Outlaw Josey Wales and Unforgiven are the best Clint Eastwood westerns and probably the best of all his movies.
"Buzzard's got to eat same as a worm," and "Dyin' ain't no way to make a livin,'" are my two favorite sayings from Josey Wales.
I also like the Dirty Harry movies and some of his later movies like "In the Line of Fire" and "Absolute Power." Clint with Gene Hackman do some amazing work.
The Outlaw Josey Wales just does’t do it for me like his films from the Man With No Name series.
December 12th in a few theaters.
The problem is, pussies vote for these nominations and this is the anti-pussy movie of all time.

Another rule of thumb: Never trust anyone who wears a bow tie.
....but he did have a cool mustache.
Oh, and Unforgiven.
What?????? You didn't like Bronco Billy?????????????????? :-)
Yeah, Bronco Billy was an odd one. What about Kelly’s Heroes?
My favorite line from Unforgiven is when Eastwood tells hackman “Deserve’s got nothing to do with it” and then proceeds to pull the trigger. Gawd, that was one hard, cold character.
And I saw Gran Torino last weekend with the wife and one of the kids - we all thoroughtly loved it. It’s worth seeing twice.
The Outlaw Josey Wales is my favorite Western of all time. Period. Although I have to say I like most of Clint’s Westerns.
And let’s be honest about Dirty Harry. It’s basically a Western set in 1970’s San Francisco.
And back to his current film, Gran Torino is very high on my must-see list, although I will probably wait until I can rent it.
I think Clint is giving us a message in Grand Torino. The message is that he doesn't think much of over indulged, politically correct white American youth of today.
And neither do I for the most part. By and large, the yoots of today resemble the product of MTV and a communist indoctrination camp.
What about that one with the chimp?
A really good movie that is being ignored by Hollywood. We really enjoyed it.
He made two, and it was an orangutan. I really liked both of them, but they are also two of my dad’s absolute favorites. He actually wanted to name me after Clint’s character in them. I’m glad mom overruled him there.
