Major plot points from Battlestar Galactica were also front page headlines over the past few years: terrorism, secret tribunals, prisoner abuse, war. Will the show continue to feel relevant with Obama running America?
With only a few episodes left in the series, BSG is about to disappear from the airwaves. The question is whether it will stand the test of time as the world changes. We've got three reasons why Battlestar might remain relevant in years ahead, and three reasons why it might be headed for the ashcan of history.
Why it's still relevant: Stirring portrait of multicultural, gender-equal leadership. The Fleet is a good example of what leadership might look like in a post-Obama America. One of the most powerful stories that BSG tells is of a community whose leadership is mixed-race and gender-equal. Admiral Adama is the Caprican equivalent of Latino, while characters like Gaeta, Dualla, and Tory are mixed-race. And women occupy some of the highest positions in the government and the military. While some shows might make a big deal out of this, and smarm you with PC unctuousness, BSG simply takes it for granted that its human society is racially mixed. Certainly there are racial issues, such as the dark-skinned Sagittarans being oppressed by the lighter-skinned Capricans. But the Sagittaran vs. Caprican conflict is really about economic power: The Sagittarans are poor, and that's what makes them powerless - not the color of their skins. BSG's mixed race future is part of that "hope" which the Obama Administration promises.

The darker skinned African-American community will tell you that they are kept down more than the lighter skinned African-American community (including those with skin the shade of Obama's). They will tell you that they see such discrimination within their community by their "own" people.
This is why I hate reporters. How is BSG going to disappear from the "airwaves" when it's not available on broadcast TV?
Well, I think they’re starting to portray the Obama Administration..., it’s looking like “chaos” on Battlestar Galactica... LOL..

I caught up actually. The 12th Cylon doesn’t interest me though.
How many times has BSG has jumped the shark? Let’s just say the poor shark’s fin is worn down to a nub.
Obama is the super secret cylon.
But Dirk Benedict's hair was far prettier.

My personal rating, not worth very much :0)
(No spoilers, obfuscation used).
Up to the end of the end of Season 1, I think BS was at least an 9 in 10. Top rate, tense plotting in every episode.
Up to the end of the end of the ‘female Admiral arc’ I give BS an 8 in 10. Some tedious stuff, but mostly compelling drama.
Boots on the ground on NC. I got a terrible sinking feeling. Dull plots ripped from the headlines. Felt like “Iraq in space, but we’re the Muslims” if that makes any sense.
After that, right up to SE04 E10 ... no more than a 4 in 10.
The discovery scenes late in SE03 - I would be ashamed of including a ‘twist’ that lame and forced in anything I wrote.
And with a few very notable exceptions (Apollo at the trial scene and some snappy dialog between Roslyn and Adama) the dialog has been very flat.
Nice SE04 scene with Tory in the evac tube though: a real standout scene, which just pointed out the low dramatic quotient of the rest.
Just my opinion, others can disagree without prejudice.
And BSG has “Gaita the gay gimp”.
