Is Battlestar Galactica Relevant in the Obama Era? (Supernova barf)

Major plot points from Battlestar Galactica were also front page headlines over the past few years: terrorism, secret tribunals, prisoner abuse, war. Will the show continue to feel relevant with Obama running America?

With only a few episodes left in the series, BSG is about to disappear from the airwaves. The question is whether it will stand the test of time as the world changes. We've got three reasons why Battlestar might remain relevant in years ahead, and three reasons why it might be headed for the ashcan of history.

Why it's still relevant: Stirring portrait of multicultural, gender-equal leadership. The Fleet is a good example of what leadership might look like in a post-Obama America. One of the most powerful stories that BSG tells is of a community whose leadership is mixed-race and gender-equal. Admiral Adama is the Caprican equivalent of Latino, while characters like Gaeta, Dualla, and Tory are mixed-race. And women occupy some of the highest positions in the government and the military. While some shows might make a big deal out of this, and smarm you with PC unctuousness, BSG simply takes it for granted that its human society is racially mixed. Certainly there are racial issues, such as the dark-skinned Sagittarans being oppressed by the lighter-skinned Capricans. But the Sagittaran vs. Caprican conflict is really about economic power: The Sagittarans are poor, and that's what makes them powerless - not the color of their skins. BSG's mixed race future is part of that "hope" which the Obama Administration promises.

"Lords..... To quote William Shatner, this person needs to get a life!!! IT IS JUST A TV SHOW!!!"

Dude that is so right for this piece of mental masturbation.

But this is what you get when liberals think they make a difference. For liberals everything is about them and especially when they have a Narcissistic-Sociopathic President elected that shares their Bush-Derangement-Syndrome and nurses their own narcissistic disorder that only what they think is right.

For them all things media be it music, books, plays, movies, or television shows is about them and should only be tools for them to drive their agenda. These people are truly sick. Talk about your delusions of grandeur gezz this fruitcake thinks he is next in line for master of the universe.

IIRC, human females average about 30% less weight, and pound for pound carry more fat and less muscle.

All that bs only happens on TV...

Congratulations... You've discovered that we're discussing a TV show here...

They're not human. This is science fiction. And you used a VERY important word... "average."

There are "real" women that I would NEVER consider getting into a ring with, because they would kick my ass. Like Gina Carano. Some are far smaller than me. And I remember to this very day, in my freshman year in high school, Brenda Ruleford was tired of being teased by a guy who played defensive end on the varsity football team, and she hauled off and punched him in the mouth, knocking him off his feet and knocked out 2 of his teeth. He never bothered her again.

It became irrelevant to me when they made Starbuck a woman.

The Fleet is a good example of what leadership might look like in a post-Obama America.

Has this person been watching the show recently?

Let's see- the President has gone all goofy. There is a mutiny in the military. The civilian government is falling apart and the enemies are nipping at everyone's heels and nobody knows where to go next.

Sounds about right, actually.

True, there are women that I wouldn’t get into a fight with. And a female marine is definitely above average... but so are marine men.

I’m a lifelong sci-fi fan and own a bunch of 50s stuff. So I like just about any space show and BSG is for the most part one of the best. Heck, it’s only a TV show. Even bad sci-fi is better than 90% of other TV crap. But the idiots’ comments on this dumb chick’s blog are funny as hell. Obama-lovers sound a lot like religious fanatics don’t they?

The only thing that worries me is that when Obama’s insane policies fail these same kool-aid addicts are going to be his mindless army when he does what all fascists do and blame a scapegoat. There seem to be a lot of them. I guess we are fortunate that this time the other side of civil strife is afraid to own and use guns.

Anyone catch the graffiti on the wall, “Frack Earth.” That alone was worth the price of cable for the month.

Its a TV show. Its fun. Its well written and the effects are good.

I sigh sometimes when they preach, but then Caprica Six comes on and all is well with the world. And on what other show could a guy choke the life out of his wife and get away with it?

Boy, I have to differ with you here. I think most of us know that “fighting” is as much mental as physical. Get someone focused and trained...and that is 90% of the battle. And pissed off women can do a lot more damage than most men.

I call it BS Galactica. I started to think it was a sitcom after learning Starbuck was a chick. Let’s call her Stardoe..

Dirk, is that you?
