He added: “I do believe we will bring one down. We’re developing increasingly sophisticated weapons.” Mr Pope also rubbished the MoD’s stance that UFOs pose no danger to the public, saying: “I think that’s a line I wrote myself in the 1990s. “But if they haven’t investigated, how do they know it poses no threat? “They will try to play it down by talking about flying saucers and little green men. But there are MPs and ministers and a faction of the MoD who do believe in UFOs.” An MoD spokesman last night refused to comment on the directive.

I think this fellow is deranged, or drunk on self-aggrandizement, or just a scoundrel trying to fleece glassy-eyed UFO true believers.
If an advanced alien civilization has technology allowing interstellar travel, they also have weapons that would make shooting a missile at them from a fighter plane as futile and self-destructive as throwing a rock at a battleship.

Back in the 1960s, when I was still in the Air Force, there was a Professor McDonald, a meteorologist, from some university in Arizona, who took a sabbatical to investigate the UFO phenomenon. He became convinced that UFOs were alien spacships.
He gave a briefing on his investigations at the Pentagon. I contrived to get myself invited. As a Major, I sat in a back row. The 4-Stars sat in front. McDonald gave his pitch, then opened for questions. One of the 4-Stars asked, "If what you say is true, Dr. McDonald, how come they never crash? How come we never find any wreckage?"
With a bland smile on his face, McDonald replied, "Maybe their Zero Defects program really works." That ended the briefing.

I know, lets start an interplanetary incident by shooting down an unidentified aircraft that for the last 2000 years has not shown to be hostile (unless you believe in alien abduction and cattle mutilations)

He claimed RAF pilots had fired at UFOs several times - but couldn't take them out.And he added: "We know of cases where the order has been given to shoot down - with little effect to the UFO."
If space monsters really existed, I doubt our weapons would do much other than piss them off.
Luckily for us, they don't exist.

This is quite possibly the best thread I’ve read all day. No.. all week. Month!
Enlightening. Entertaining. Educating. I laughed, I cried, I ate some chips.
Next I’d like to read a thread about the Hollow Earth Theory.
