Kinda like the Obaffen SS we have here.
Don't even think about it, Barry.
Hey Homer, I so appreciate all you post everyday, but I have lost my bookmark file that I had all your posts bookmarked in. Is there a list of all of your releases (even from before I got on your ping list?)
Just curious because I want to burn all this info on to a CD. My friend is becoming curious with all that I am telling her and it is clashing with what she was taught in school (duh).
Thanks! Even if you just have a list of links, I can go to each page and bookmark/download and I will burn it so I don’t lose it this time.
I got a chill when I heard Obama complain that the military had too many rural people in it. Clearly he wants this last stronghold of patriotism, honor, and self-sacrifice to be infiltrated and “changed,” just as the Ayers-inspired Leftist “change agents” infiltrated and corrupted the entire education establishment.
It’s sure is scary seeing history repeat itself, and 52% of the people like it this way. Sick, and sad.
Thanks for the ping!
In a way, we suffer from our domesticated and housebroken military. On the plus side, we don’t have to worry about coups, juntas and leadership by “Colonel of the Month.”
On the minus side, our military is like the stormtrooper clones from Star Wars. They will carry out the orders of the civilian political leadership, no matter how bad that leadership is.
We also have a lot of turnover in our military leadership. Many general officers vie for the top spots. Those spots change almost on an annual basis. It does keep the officers from getting too comfy in their commands, and forces older officers into retirement. Not doing this was a serious problem for the French in 1940 as we will discuss next year.
Barry has a lot of potential appointments to make, and he will fill the top command and staff posts with his loyal military bootlickers. This differs from the Prussian General Staff tradition of having the army select its own leadership.
We are much worse off than Germany. Our military has always been under the complete authority of the civilians, both good and bad.
By the way, I still have a problem with hanging Jodl and Keitel at Nuremberg, as well as the trials of all the other generals like von Manstein. For the military, I do believe that “I was following orders” is a lawful defense. It is not the responsibility of the military to select their civilian political leadership, and they are supposed to follow orders.
This leveling of rank and class although applied at present only to ex soldiers and inactive officers, is bound to make itself felt in the army as well............. .
---------------------- .
Keep the officer rank but infiltrate it and lower is value in the active army. Level and eliminate the distinction in the retired and active. You really had to think about the implications, lots of deniablity and confusion by the perps. Watch the body, not the hands..........
I totally agree with you especially with regards to Gen. Jodl who was posthumuosly acquitted in a West German court of all war crimes. Gen. Jodl was a professional military staff officer who was no worse than Admirals Donitz and Raeder who received prison sentences.
If you go to my “Link” page in my profile you’ll find I have links to all of this years threads and also the “1938 year in review” thread which has all the 1938 threads in it. That should get you completely up to date.
The instant I read that the name Giraud popped into my head. You know your pompus when even de Gaulle can't stand you.
Much of Nuremberg was about revenge (and pandering to the Stalinists), not justice.
Be assured I read every one but sometimes I just get frustrated because I cannot cut and paste from your posted images.
Thank you for your service to history and FR.
I thought the Werhmacht didn’t have to take an oath of personal loyalty to Hitler until AFTER the von staffenburg assasination attempt. Did not the Wehrmacht not have the eagle and swastika on the right breastplate until after the the attempted murder? I thought it was the last state institution to succumb to the Nazi totalitarian state???
No, all German soldiers took a PERSONAL oath of loyalty to Hitler (not the army of the country) starting in the 30’s. Many German officers refused to disobey criminal Hitler’s orders because such an oath of honor was almost physically binding to the officer caste. The German Navy resisted Hitler more than any other branch, more out of hidebound tradition than anything else. Raeder and Doenitz refused to dismiss naval officers with Jewish wives.
It was required after the death of President Hindenburg, at which time Hitler abolished the old Weimar office of President, assuming the title of Fuhrer and Reich Chancellor.
SS leader Reinhard Heydrich is ordered by Göring to speed up emigration of Jews.
This tidbit comes from www.worldwar-2.net. It is a great site for WWII timelines. The war is broken down by region and year. I counted 90 timelines for the actual war period plus one called Prelude to War, where today's update came from. There is even a section on World War I. The site's developer is British, so it has a slight British emphasis.
I couldn't find anything about Goering's orders to Heydrich on this date in my vast library ("Rise and Fall of the Third Reich").
Not sure what you mean. The original post was about Benny Goodman, last January. It looks as it did then. I was only posting text copied from Word docs back then.
sometimes I just get frustrated because I cannot cut and paste from your posted images.
I know what you mean. It impairs the discussion when you have to copy manually like that. Manual transcription was taking me too long to accomplish. We would still be in last October if I didn't go to the scanning method. But I didn't have success scanning to a Word file that I could edit for errors and post as text. Maybe I should give it another try with the next batch. I have uploaded images through Feb. 20. The best of all worlds would be a Word document that retains the original look but can be edited to correct copying glitches and can be posted as text to facilitate quoting during discussion. I think the biggest obstacle to that is the legibility of my photocopies from the microfiche reader.
Thank you for your service to history and FR.
That is very nice of you to say. I thought I was just having fun. Thank you for your continued interest and support.
