Calling all animal lovers - a dog is in need of help (prayers too) (VANITY)

An animal rescue group I belong to just took in a beautiful little dog named Candoo (he was hit by a car a couple of months ago, but the family he was living with at the time never bothered to take him in for treatment of his obvious broken leg....about a month after the accident, they finally turned him over to the humane society and received a citation for neglect. Even with only 3 functioning legs, Candoo has a "I don't give up" spirit, so that's why our group gave him that name....don't tell Candoo he "can't do" anything!).
Anyway, Candoo was scheduled to have his front left leg removed yesterday. This past weekend, he became quite ill and had to be placed into a local emergency animal hospital. Here's the updates I just got from our rescue group president today:
" After spending two nights in the emergency room, one night at his foster home, and one night at the Veterinary Clinic, Candoo is being sent back to his foster home without having had surgery. The doctor reports he feels Candoo has a severe gastro-intestinal infection and is on medication. He seems to feel much better today and will be sent back with medication. If all goes well, he'll have his surgery sometime next week. The expenses for him continue to mount up even though the surgery has been put off. I'm sure Candoo will be glad to be back in his foster home though."
Then a couple of hours later, this update came through:
" Candoo was on his way back to his foster home when he got sick again so he's back at the Veterinary Hospital. "
I e-mailed her back & told her I would be sending more prayers up. This was her response:
" Better send a lot. Vet says it's time to think about how far we want to go here with no idea of what's wrong and no guarantee he'll get well."
Could you please say some prayers for Candoo? He deserves so much more than some family letting him get hit by a car, left to suffer in pain for more then a month with no medical treatment, and now that he's in loving foster care, this happens?
Our rescue group will do whatever we can to help this little guy get better, and then find him that special forever home that he deserves! Please just keep in him your prayers if you wouldn't mind...
Thank you, my FReeper FRiends!

I hope the little pup gets help but it can get expensive. A JRT was brought into my brothers vet clinic after it had been hit by a car. I said I would pay for his care while they looked for the owner or found him a new home. They figured it would be about $200. After more ex rays the vets decided it was a broken pelvis and he needed a vet specialist, I had gotten to know what a sweet dog he was, in spite of his pain, and again I agreed to pay. The bill came in at $1500. which I paid. I am not sure I would have done it if I had known ahead of time how much the bill was going to be. I don't mind giving $1500. to a deserving charity but....... to one stray dog?
I wasn't going to back out on my word. The end of the story is the dog healed, walked with a limp, found a great new home and doesn't chase cars anymore. I got a very nice thank you letter from the new owners.

Great post & link. Thanks. My wife saved a 3 legged kitten (right rear missing) from an abandoned or foreclosed home during her workday about a year ago in the middle of winter. The kitty was in bad shape with pneumonia. About $700 of vet bills and some TLC in our house Isabella (my son calls her Tripod) is doing fine with the 4 other cats and the dog, although she still hisses at the cats but sleeps near the dog.

Contact your local Petco. They have a fund to help non-profits and they may be able to help with some publicity. I am proud to say that I work for this compassionate company. Also prayers up!

I don't like having to say this but these animal rescue groups sure spend a lot of personal time and money for which they don't get compensated in an effort to save pets. Why don't vets ever offer an occasional free service in situations like this?
Maybe they do and I just don't know about it?........
